Fly Screens and Step Motors

    Hi All

Two questions to keep you going on a Monday morning
    1st Question
Our van does not have a fly screen on the door. Can these be retro-fitted? when retro fitted, do they work and where does one go about getting them?
The van is a CI Riviera

    2nd Question
The motor for the steps is under the van (obvious enough). The problem is that I have been told that the manufacturer of the motor does not waterproof the motor.......kinda daft I know but that is what the supplier told me when I was replacing the step motor. Anybody got any advice as to how to waterproof the step motor.......I tried to enclose the motor in a bag to keep most of the water from the rear wheels getting to it, but when I looked at it yesterday, there was a lot of water sitting in the bottom of the bag....not exactly what I had planned:(
Any CI bods out there that have overcome this problem??

    Flyscreen:
Depends on the door design. For some doors you can buy separate "flyscreen doors" that fit into the existing frame, on others you can't. It's really a matter of someone who sells them having a look at your van.

There are aftermarket thingys out there that work like curtains or blinds. Once again fitting has to be checked on the actual van.

    your step motor

I would root around for a suitable plastic container (or get something botched together in sheet metal) that encases the motor and that you can screw into the floor of the van from underneath. Bit of sealant ...Bob's your uncle.

I just removed a make-do 'fly screen' from our old Hymer over the weekend. It has been there since we bought it a few years ago.

Basically, the previous owner stuck some velcro to the two vertical panels either side of the door (inside the van) and from the look of all the fluff and stuff stuck to the velcro they used to attach a sheet of something fine to the velcro providing a screen to keep the bugs out. I can't imagine it was easy to get in/out when the screen was in place as you would have to un-velcro one side of the entire door, but I guess it worked for them.

I was sitting there looking at it over the weekend when I realised it had been bugging me for years, so I took it off.
