    HI

A quick question even though I think I know the answer already. My insurance is with Dolmen (regular policy) and I was just wondering on the off chance is any of the internal workings of the van covered by insurance. We have had an electrician friend look at the electrics which keep tripping but he doesnt know the ins and outs of campervans so my second question is does anyone know of anyone that does camper electrics ?

    Thanks

You should try Donaghy Motorhomes in Letterkenny. He has his own mechanics etc. Last time i was there they were working on a saturday. Im sure if you rang they would be able to help you. :D

What actually is wrong with your electrics? What kind of camper do you have?

Maybe if you could describe it some more / narrow it down, we could point an "ordinary" car electrician in the right direction where to look for the fault.

    Hi

The van type is a Peogoet Hobby and basically the electrics just keep tripping when we turn on the toilet switch or sometimes even just the lights. I have had an electrician look at this but he wasnt able to solve it.
So basically I was wondering does anyone know of an electrician that does work on campers

    Thanks all :-)

I'm sorry, I can't answer your direct question, as I don't know of any motorhome specialist electricians either.

But your electrics "tripping" sounds weird. Do you actually blow a fuse somewhere? Because the water pump or the light don't really consume enough power to be "tripping" anything.

Basically, your camper electrics all work on 12V and should all be powered by the second battery (decoupled from the main starter battery). Even when you're hooked up to 240V, the pump and lights are still powered by the second battery, only that that battery is now getting charged as well.

What I'm trying to get at is that most likely there is a fault with your second battery ...it may still have charge but possibly no amps left and as soon as you switch on a user (like the pump) the battery just goes to its knees.

Have you tried connecting another battery instead? One that you know is ok (out of your car perhaps)

Another thing that it could be (but difficult to locate) is a bad earth somewhere.

If you can get to Fermanagh I'll look it over some afternoon. Should be able to tell you what's wrong and the price is free. PM me if interested.
