Claiming back tax

Before anyone says anything I have read the sticky on tax but I'm probably missing the obvious information on it..

Anyway, the story is that I have a part time job for the summer (well I'm only 15) but I'm working as many hours as I can so I'm earning quite a bit for my age. The thing is that I'm getting taxed and I know I'm not supposed to. I've kept the payslips so what do I do now? I think I'll wait til the end of the summer so that it will all build up. Do I ring up somewhere or go to some tax claiming office? ( :p )

    Thanks

Assuming you are within these guidelines

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/employment/starting-work-and-changing-job/young-people-at-work/protection_of_young_people_in_employment/?searchterm=under%2016%20employment%20working%20hours

Then i would suspect that you are subject to the same taxation rules as a normal employee (I'm not 100% sure, but i could not find anything on revenue or the above website to indicate any different). In which case you will need to work out your SRCOP(standard rate cut off point), and see if you are being over taxed or not.

If you are being emergency taxed, the tax type on your payslip should be E, if its Normal tax, it'll be A in general.

If you are being emergency taxed, then when you finish employment, send your P45 to you local tax office once you've finished employment.

If you want you can wait till the end of the year and send back your P60 to the TAX office if you are not finishing employment before the end of the year.

Otherwise, i would suggest contact your local tax office.

The quickest way to get the information your looking for is to go here

    https://www.revenue.ie/wiclo/details.jsp

Pop in your PPS number and call the phone number it spits out, your local tax office will be able to tell you exactly what you need to do.

Thanks. I am under those terms and it is Emergancy Tax that is being taken off so I presumed that I can get it back.

Funnily enough it's not everytime I get paid that I get taxed. I think it's only when I earn over a certain amount that I get taxed.

I would suggest you ring the tax office and get it sorted out as depending on the situation as there can be long delays in reclaiming the money.

Also, Emergency Tax starts off at what appears to be a reasonable rate but increases over time until you are paying a very large portion of your pay in tax.
