Possible new site

I've had this on the long finger for a while but I've been hectic with work I haven't played in 4 months and my trigger finger made me finally do this.

This is something we were discussing on ASI, there's a pretty excellent paintball site just outside Limerick called Combat Zone, been there a few times with teammates (american football, not airsoft team), and since there were more and more people asking about a site on the west coast to suit all the players from the south and west who couldn't or wouldn't make the trip to Dublin or the north every week, I looked into possibly taking it over for a day now and again for skirmish purposes. The guy I was talking to said that provisionally he wouldn't see a problem with it but he gave me the bosses number to get a proper clearance (whom I will call on Monday when he's back).

The only issue he could see was licenceing, as paintball guns are 1J+ they would require licences so I can appreciate where he was coming from. When I explained that they weren't required as all our AEGs, GBBs, etc were sub-1J and exempt from licence on that ground he seemed even more positive about this happening citing that they are often approached for paintball tournaments and the like so this technically wouldn't be all that different for them.

Now as I said, I haven't spoken to the boss yet but I will update you Monday or Tuesday when I do about what he says. In the meantime I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. This more than likely won't be a regular thing as most of their business would be Saturday and Sunday so unless a regular mid-week shoot was a runner with staff and patrons then it would have to be organised more as an event once a month or so. This could work to our favour however as it may draw a lot more people to it. Personally, I like the idea of a massive monthly/bi-monthly shoot with 30+ players there.

The site itself is pretty huge and is divided into sections depending on their objectives, including a substantial fortress area, built on ten acres. The entire site is built in a Coillte forest, so there's loads of cover and rough terrain even before the man-made stuff is thrown in. The other big advantage to that is that the canopy is so dense, rain doesn't make too much difference to a game (I was paintballing there in the rain before and it only added to the experience).

I was posting this on the IAA forum but it seems to have closed while I was typing!

Anyway, thats enough background on the idea. I'd like to hear your thoughts on it before I go cap-in-hand to the boss.

Thats great news Dex well done mate :D , i can personally vouch for the place being an excellent venue [ive paintballed their a couple of times and it would appear ideal for airsoft] I and a few others would certainly make the trip down from Galway fairly regularly.
    Keep us posted mate ;)

Ooh got some brochures for that place back when I was in college, always meant to arrange a weekend trip down. If this thing goes ahead you can count me in but since I won't drive it and I doubt Lemming will be offering lifts to Limerick, Scope I'll be moving into your back garden for a few days :D

I picked up one of their brochures to day and the place is huge. They probably would not be in a position to provide supplies such as BB's so we better stock up, Good on you NekedDex.

Jeez....that place looks incredible. I'd make it my business to get across at least once a month if they started a regular Airsoft day.

As I said, nothings in stone yet but it's encouraging to see the support for it.
I doubt transport would be a problem as one of the services they offer for paintball is a shuttle bus from Limerick city. Costs an extra few bucks, fiver a head I think, but the option is there. And Limerick city is pretty easy to get to from any part of the country.

It's getting out that's the problem

From this it looks brilliant. There are a few of us so we might head over the night before in our campervan and be ready to play the next morning. Probably take a similar time to going to pred.
