What do you think of people out side the mma world trying to set up fight nights. When they know nothing about mma and all they want is any money they can make . Is this going to bring a bad name to our sport ????. It was said to me the other day that there can be alot of money made from setting up small fight nights using fighters with only a few fights maybe not even pro or semi pro fights. The people i talk about are cowboys and have done this in other fighting sports so i would like to see what you all think about this .

If the fighters are looked after and there is a demand from fans, why not? I don't care who organises an event I watch, as long as it's enjoyable

i know a lad who is thinking of doing this and i think its only a good thing if it gets more mma interest and helps mma become more mainstream, once the fighters are looked after all is good..i might be looking for fighters for a friend who is thinking of setting up a show so personally i think it can only be a good thing!

I think it's fine so long as everyone is looked after. The fighters will obviously agree to a fee before getting in the ring and so on. The managers should check the credentials (or existence) of a doctor and such like. Other than that I think it will only serve to bring MMA into a more publicly accepted and mainstream profile.

If a promoter is able to run a good show, with well trained fighters that give a good representation of the sport, that can only be a good thing.
In order to achieve this, I think any promoter would need to have a good understanding of the sport.
He would also need either of 2 things to attract the better fighters in Ireland:
    1. Credibility, ie be respected and known to be able to make a good show
    or
    2. Lots of money

Remember one thing though, anyone in business should be able to tell you this, a bad referral is worth about 10 good referrals. So any bad show could put a lot of first time spectators off for a while.

We are in Ireland, not the most illustrious place for MMA. You need to start somewhere in the promotions game and if that means being called a cowboy so be it. People get better with experience and this (more shows) can be a good thing for MMA in Ireland. It needs to be brought into the mainstream as there is a lot of ignorance about it here.

With UFR and ROT, not to mention CR, the League, and MMA matches on Thai fight cards I think MMA in Ireland is operating close to capacity as it is. If another promoter did come in and couldn't strike a deal with any of the big promoters now (who also coach the most fighters) I reckon they wouldn't get very far.

I can give you all a solid KPI on the growth of MMA. Two and a half years ago I brought John K down for a seminar in Galway entitled turning the tables. It was billed as an MMA seminar and used the usual marketing channels, clubs, boards and mailing lists. I had nobody from outside the Galway club that didn't travel down with John!
This weekend I am running an MMA WEEKEND and it is full to the brim! In the last two years more and more people have gotten into MMA that we are tripping over people now, it ROCKS!
