    You have three options:

    1) Get SkyHD
    2) Get high def recording from your american cousins
    3) Wait 'til September: Season 1 will be released by universal on hddvd in September

BSG was made for HD. The space scenes are omg! If I were you, I'd wait for the hddvd versions. I expect them to be sextacular.

sky = no, im not getting sky HD im not big into TV's and im not going to pay for a sky box just in my room and just for BSG and they probbely dont even air it all the time and if you record it then can only watch it where you recoreded it what if i wanted to lend it to a friend?

cousins are no use, its not HD, it looks a little better but not 1080

Sept eh? ye but that is only season 1 will they release the first 3 and miniseries before x-mass? i dont want it to be a load of bollox waiting for 2 or 3 years before i can watch 000-320 in HD

Your cousins generally only encode in 720p to save space in the parcel. They like 1.1G file size encoded using x264. I think this is skimping it a bit myself, but it looks somewhat better than dvd quality (I think 1.4G x264 is probably the sweet spot). Just because they tell you it's hdtv, does not mean it's at hdtv quality. It just means it came from a hdtv source.

You can get full 1080 iirc, but it's a HUGE file size (8G per episode) and you'll need to pay for it. I have seen this, and I can say with hand on heart that it looks amazing but not worth the extra 7G download. Of course, it's all subjective.

I posted those screenshots you mention in your OP. They were taken at 720p, xvid encoded, 1.4G per episode. I deliberately chose the best looking scenes though.

Strangely, seasons 1 and 2 were not aired at very high quality in the US, even in high def. Same applies to the miniseries. Season 3 is of noticeably higher quality from skyhd. I'll be buying S1 in whatever format it's released in high def as soon as it comes out (I'm assuming players wont be ridiculously priced at that point). Really looking forward to seeing what the quality of that is like.

These are the original streams. The 1.1G x264 encoded 720p ones are actually pretty decent, but 1080p uses about twice as many pixels, so even for X264 you'd want 2G minimum.

    PM Sent.

8 gigs wow, now that i think about it the best way to combat piracy would be a complete halt of all DVD production and only HD or blueray, people are quite happy to download a season of there favurate show and how big would it be? 4 gigs min. 8.4 gigs is a season in normal quality? That same season in HD would be 192 GB. HD space would become a problem and people would just buy the DVD's .... hopefully

There are no 100 euro hd dvd or blu ray players.
There are sd players that upscale to a hd resolution but they cannot play hd disc's.

The cheapest blu-ray player is the ps3 $500 or the new sony player $500 too.
The cheapest hd dvd player is the xbox 360 add-on or the toshiba hd-e1.
