ATSC tuner question

Recently purchased this Sony Bravia 26" TV.

    4003

I notice the TV has an internal digital tuner, allowing it to pick up digital broadcasts over the ariwaves. I began tuning in some digital channels. It picked up RTE1, RTE2, TV3, TG4 all in fantastic quality, along with all the national radio stations.

I'm just curious as to why it didn't pick up channels such as BBC1, BBC2, UTV, Sky 1 etc. etc.? The TV did "find" channels such as BBC3, BBC 4, Sky Sports but when I attempt to view these channels, I'm just presented with a blank screen and no sound.

ATSC = alternative digital TV standard commonly used in USA.

DVB-T is what is used here & unless I'm mistaken none of those channels you list you can't receive are part of the DVB-T trial in Dublin only the current channels broadcast over the air.

Freeview which is the UK's DVB-T service does have BBC and the like but he signal is too weak to be received unless you are close to the border of Nothern Ireland.

Edit: According to this you should be getting some of those channels but they are scrambled so as to why I don't know but the guys in that forum should be able to tell you why.
