RTE Advertising itself

Why is RTE advertising itself on radio ? The one that has Apres Match/Risteard Cooper & "inspire your imagination" or words to that effect. It's been on a lot on RTE & I also heard it on Newstalk.

Is this not a waste of license fee money ? I can understand RTE promoting a show, but just promoting itself seems a bit odd. Has their revenue from advertising started to slip , that they can afford to waste their own ad-breaks advertising themselves ?

That promo which uses sound f/x shows more imagination than any play I've ever heard on RTE. Promoting on Newstalk is straighforwards, on its own stations it might seem odd however its about brand-maintainence in this more competitive era.

RTE has always advertised itself... on itself.
