Hi, I'm thinking of buying a new console and I'm looking at the Wii since it seems pretty weird!

    Whats the big advantages?
    Drawbacks?
Is the remote a good thing or just annoying?
Hows the online gaming? What it cost?
    Are the releases good?

Any opinions would be great :)

i would wait and see what games come out in the next 6/9 months..most consoles ,ye cant really form an opinion tell about a year and a half after its released
a good thing im noticing is the way 3rd person shooters play with the wii-mote

I suppose the fact that it's the cheapest current gen console is an advantage. It's also a Nintendo platform so you're almost guaranteed some great first party games. Drawbacks? It's not a made for horsepower so the games don't/won't look as good but it's the gameplay that matters so you shouldn't think too much of it.

The remotes is a nice alternative but I wouldn't say it's superior to the standard controller. Also keep note that the game developers can either make good use or bad use of the remote so it can actually be entirely up to the game.

At the moment online games are thin. In fact, I think Mario Strikers is the only game that supports here. Wi-Fi connection has only justed launched so expect to see a few more decent online titles by the end of the year/early next year. WiiConnect24 allows you to recieve data even when your Wii is on standby but I personally plug my Wii out seeing as it hasn't really had much use. Online is free as far as I know but it may require a wireless broadband connection so you may need to buy extra equipment. Naturally your standard broadband fees apply.

Games are also pretty thin as of now. Nothing ground breaking made just for the Wii but if you don't have a GameCube/haven't bought them before, Zelda and Resident Evil 4 are must buys. The better titles should start cropping up around August onward.

If you're not willing to wait the few months you should probably get an Xbox 360 (providing you don't have one). It's got a better line up and online service at the moment (though it's fee based). Wait a few months and get a Wii. The two compliment each other pretty well.

Seconded. Can't believe that I'm finally over my Nintendo fanboi stage:(
The Wii has great potential, but much like the DS this hasn't really been tapped just yet. There should be some great releases coming out over the next 6 months, but unless you're prepared to wait for them, then I'd advise on going for a 360 instead.

I would say that Eledees (aka Elebits) makes excellent use of the wiimote. I can't see it translating well to a "conventional" controller.

I love wii. Although I cant huck up to the internet. But the game play is fantastic. Zelda rocks. Its like being apart of a film I guess. Story line is a bit ****ed up. wii boxing is amazing. Gets me very tired though.

Online is free with the Wii and you can connect wirelessly or with an ethernet cable (you will need an adaptor) - download the opera browser soon as they are charging for it in a little while.

Wii is easily the best for multi-player and for people who normally don't use consoles.

I've actually changed my mind a little since my last post...
Combine Resident Evil 4 with Zelda and you've got a rock-solid singleplayer lineup (two 10/10 games imho)
Then you've got Metroid, Mario, Smash Bros etc on the way... now is looking like a good enough time to take a Wii*

    *pun fully intended
