With countless threads made about this already, Xtravision are supposed to have the best deal.

    Eh...

Its still under warranty mate? Why replace it, when you could probably get M$ to refurb it completely?

IIRC launch was Dec 2005? All retailers in ROI have 2yr standard warranty.

Dont give up hope. Sure refurb it anyhow, and sell it on if you dont want it.

All you need is a Core system so. Last I heard, Harvey Norman had the best deal (core). That was a while ago though.

Surely rather than chucking it out you could try some of the well known internet fixes (remove the X-Clamps etc.)

Smyths had a deal a couple weeks ago not sure if its still running, it was 399.99 for a premium console, play and charge kit, Gears Of War, Smackdown vs Raw 07 and Ghost Recon2...think they have another one with Forza 2, Gears Of War, teh play and charge kit and the pro for the same price...don't thank me just pay it forward

Im looking to invest but i dont know what to get, i have a credit note for gamestop in my pocket and the deals at the moment are:
new 360 premium + new game for €460; or preowned 360 premium (1yr warranty) + preowned game for €360; or new hardpack with smackdown + gow for €399.

    What do yis reckon?

    I'd personally go for a new and unused 360, you'll get a 2 year
warranty with it plus you have no idea of how a previous owner
looked after theirs. (The could have traded it in just as they
thought it was about to get the 3 rings of death).

If your buying a replacement console anyway then why go for another premium, just take the hard drive off your existing one and get a core as the replacement and it will save you the bother of copying all your data across, or losing it.
