has anyone heard any reports about a TF manufacturer based in Limerick called ITEC?

they appeal to me as they offer feature trusses for vaulted ceilings, which century homes do not do. Does anyone know of any other TF manufacturers that operate in the south-east that offer feature trusses?

    Hi
I colleague of mine who works in construction and knows his stuff was telling me about them. He says they provide a very good kit and the workmanship is very good. I have no first hand experience with them however.

Let me know how you get on if you do go with them as Im considering a TF house also....

...afaik, most TF companies buy in their trusses, they don't actually make them, as truss manufacture needs to be accredited.

All you - or they - have to do is identify a truss manufacturer, and you can use them on anyone's TF kit.

Have a look here, there are manufacturers in NI too. http://www.tra.org.uk/index.php

Thos McDonaghs in Ballybane, Galway are also truss manufacturers, but I don't know if they confine themselves to any style, or do all styles.

The horizontal ceiling tie on a truss is just that - it TIES the opposite wall plates together and distributes the load vertically down thru the wall plate.

If you push that tie further up INTO the truss to create an 'A' shaped truss the latteral loadings will be greater pushing the wall plates apart. I've seen the wall plate moved to the outer blockwork skin in such an instance - but normally the sloped part of the truss is 'Doubled-up' a piece of rafter added to each truss from the wall plate up the rafter by at least two junctions within the tie - this will increase the amount of thermal bridging thru the insulation on the slope form about 12.5% to 25% - it should be accouted for when insulating.

Make sure you get an enginerr to look at the loading calcs.
