Hey all. If anyones planning on headin' down to Cork over the next few weeks why not call into our clubnight, Schmutzig, Saturdays @ the Tikki. Heres what's in store for the month ahead.

    Saturday July 7th
    Itchi vs. The Optimist (BASS)

4 decks, 3 mixers, 2 DJ's; one hip hop based, one techno based; Innercity @ Electric Picnic representatives Itchi & The Optimist make their first appearance as a duo at Schmutzig. Both have been doing an excellent job of keeping punters entertained since 2004 with their own take on electro & techno. They have warmed up for acts such as Sneak Thief, DJ Godfather and Modeselector.

    Itchi is a DMC hip-hop/electro/techno turntablist/DJ/vinyl fiddler.

    Freesshhahh!

Cork-based DJ and Producer The Optimist has been refining his own destructive brand of dance floor music, combining styles and sounds from electro, techno and turntablism. You may have seen him make appearances at Sir Henry’s, Traffic and The Trinity Rooms. This summer sees of The Optimist’s At Swim Two Birds EP on the newly formed Cork-based label, Bastardo Electrico Records.

    Saturday 14th
    Kevin O Shea (Horan’s - Tralee)
    wsf Paudi Ahern (Schmutzig/Electronic Ireland)

Kevin is a regular at Kerry’s techno outlet Horan’s, and has also seen many a mix hosted on www.electronicireland.com. He will be playing minimal, electro, Detroit house&techno.

Check out his latest EI mix here.

    Saturday 21st
    Kenny Hanlon (Innercity/BASS)
    wsf Brian Shelly (Schmutzig)

After 27yrs, Kenny's still in denial of the fact that he's white, from Monaghan and not black and from Detroit, so expect to hear the usual bag of Detroit stylee techno, electro, and if you ask nicely, italo-disco. He will also, on request, play Drexciya repeatedly.

    Saturday 28th

He has also recently completed tracks for Skint Records and Alex Under’s CMYK label, to come out later in 2007. In 2006, Kevin made an unofficial remix of the R & S classic ‘Vamp’ by Outlander. This has now been officially licensed and will appear on the Gigolo 10 compilation released in April this year. Kevin will be performing live in Berlin to coincide with the 10th anniversary of Gigolo.

His own label Mikrowave was formed in 2006 and as well as his own output has included music from Alex Under, Agaric and Marc Ashken. The coming year on Mikrowave will see more from Kevin, as well as Mark Broom, Phil Kieran, Tadeo, Bodycode, Mihalis Safras and more.

Appearances in 2006 included an interview and Ableton mix for Radio 1, on the Fergie show in April. He was also featured earlier in the year in a ‘Best of British Futures’ show alongside James Talk and Dave Robertson. Kevin now exclusively gigs with his laptop and MIDI gear. This allows him to experiment and improvise live, performing different versions of his own music every time.

Kevin’s musical influences are diverse but he takes most inspiration from the raw, emotive and groove led music of Chicago, New York and Detroit. Artists like Green Velvet, Todd Terry, Carl Craig, Jeff Mills, Rob Hood, Boo Williams, DJ Sneak, Derrick May, Masters At Work and Kevin Saunderson. Also, the European producers true to this such as Orlando Voorn, Laurent Garnier, Ian O’Brien, Steve Rachmad, Slam and most recently Alex Under.

Kevin has recorded under various aliases, and at various times worked in the music industry as promoter, graphic designer, teacher and photographer. Using the name 'Cheech' he remixed Tony Thomas for 'Bugged' (2003) and had his first track 'Rocksteady' (2002) re-released on Distinctiv' in 2004. Cheech has appeared on compilations including James Lavelle's Global Underground, Y4K, Ministry and others.
Kevin is based in his Manchester studio, and is originally from Chester, England.
