I have an epie LP, and im thinking of replacing the bridge pickup, as the clean tone on the standard one has way too much bass. Wondering what the EMG 81 BK is like when played clean and overdriven. also, how much would it cost to get it fitted, as i wouldnt have the confidence to preform surgery on my baby!!
    here is the pickup http://www.thomann.de/ie/emg_81.htm

your help would be greatly appreciated!:)

I'd say it depends on what style of music you want to play with it. And also the amp/EQ settings you use. I put a Seymore Duncan SH4 in mine and I love it. Beautiful sound. I thought it was a JB4 for some reason. Anyway, kick ass pick up. Perfect for an Epi LP imo.

I like EMG's but if you're going to be updating one pickup, you'll either have to do both or loose functionality on your neck pickup.

You can wire EMGs with passives..

Not easily though. There's a bit of messing around with difference resistances

Mention it to him at least, rather than flat out dismissing it as an option

If you're going with one EMG you're better off doing both, it's just simpler and cleaner in the long run. If you have a look on Thomann and the likes you'll see EMG do a lot of bridge/neck pickup sets which come complete with everything you need, pots, wiring, etc. As for installation cost, just phone up some of the shops here and ask, or some of the maintenance/repair guys listed in the resources sticky.

Funnily enough, I've never heard Kerry King use a neck pickup ha ha ha. The Zakk Wylde set is designed to fit a LP so it should make for the most straightforward install.

careful! the pick ups you tried out maybe different, buzzsaw les pauls come with emg-HZs in them(passive ones)(unless i am very much mistaken)

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/epiphone_zakk_wylde_lp_buzzaw.htm Yup, passive HZ's.

Didn't King use the neck pickup on the solo in Seasons in the Abyss? </pedant>

My favorite two words (one hyphenated) are DiMarzio Super-Distortion.

One of the guitarists in my band has an Ace Frehley LP with 2 SD's in it....I've never heard such tone in my life.

Thinking of changing out the 'Duncan-designed' in my Schecter for a couple of these.

I've always wanted to try super distortions myself

Should be getting one myself, along with a PAF soon. Let you know what it's like when I do.
