Need help downloading on mac

    A simple question really. Everytime i download a file or whatever it goes on my desktop nad i dont want it. But i dont know what to delete so the program sometimes stops working. How can i fix this or what would you suggest ?

    I'll assume you're using Safari in which case click the Safari menu then Preferences. In the General tab near the bottom is a menu item labeled
    "Save downloaded files to:" - by default it's set to desktop but you can use the drop down menu options to change the location. It's also wise to uncheck the
    "Open 'safe' files after downloading" option.

    Programs usually (but not always) come as .dmg files. Opening these will place a disk on your desktop. Within this disk you will find the app you downloaded. Drag this to you Applications folder before starting the app. To delete an unwanted app simply drag it to the trash.

    What you do with the original .dmg file you downloaded is up to you, you may want to keep it in which case maybe put it in your Documents folder or if you prefer just trash it.
