Im going back to do my hons degree in chemistry this september full-time for a year(i have a diploma in analytical chemistry) I have 3 years exp in various different jobs in the pharma industry, I can choose from a variety of chemistry degrees , the ones on offer are mainly focused on getting you a lab based job, not sure I want to do this again as the pay isnt great.I think I will do environmenal science, does any one know of any good paying jobs in this area and how could pay gets to be? Ill be 30 when I finish next may and my exp to date is as follows

1 year as a production operator in a big pharma company

1 year as a lab analyst in a big pharma company

18 months as a Quality Control inspector in a big medical device company

Im currently working in a soils lab, the job is very basic and so is the pay

Any idea what my salary expectation should be when I start job hunting again next may/june?

I have been in the Environmental game for over years now.

Firstly the likes of environmental labs don't pay the best. Neither to environmental consultants when you are starting off.

However if you build up experience with a decent consultancy you could be on 40-50K in 5-10 years.

A lot of Environmental jobs are linked with Health and Safety. So Alot of companies are Looking for Environmental, Health and Safety officers. It would be worth your while doing a part time course in H&S. You are looking at 30-40K working as an EHS officer. An EHS manager could earn 50-60K.

Get the experience under your belt and find your niche after a couple of years and go out on your own, that is when you will make money.

    Good luck
