Computer slowing down

Hey all, apologies in advance, I'm sure his gets asked alot. I posted about it myself a few months back, and got great advice but the search function has failed me. I'm trying to clean up my mates laptop for them, and I know there's alot of defrags available as well as general clean up tools and analysers. If I recall correctly in one instance I ran some sort of diagnostic program I downloaded and posted the results here for inspection and advice.

If anyone could give me a heads up that'd be great, I've already got anti virus and ad aware installed, will probably get Perfect Disk for the defrag but was wondering if you could recommend anyhting else.

Check the startup items using msconfig. I find Norton really slows down the computer and took it off and put on avg ... made a great difference. Check ide/atapi controller settings -> advanced to see all ok. Run hardware diagnostics. Stay away from registery cleaner and bug programs they usually do more damage that good. Run scandisk with surface check. The list is endless
