    Folks, any help appreciated.

I have decided to research the production of Standard Triumph cars in Ireland and want to know if anyone has any information on this subject. I know cars were built in Cashel Road, Kimmage, Dublin in the 60s and in another workshop along the canal in Dublin. I am looking for stories, photos, anyone who worked there etc.

I am a member of the Triumph Classic Owners Club and have had an interest in these cars for a long time now. My email is triumphs@ireland.com

    Thanks,
    Ken Nolan.

I remember Morris cars (the 1100/1300 model) lined up inside the works beside the Canal (G.A. Brittain Ltd) but not Triumphs. This would have been the early '70s. As far as I know, Triumphs were (re)built only at Cashel Road. Austins were built on Baggot Street by Lincoln Nolan and Booth Poole built Rileys and Wolseleys at Islandbridge.

Thanks for that. The cars in Cashel Road were called CKD's, which means complete knock down kits. The cars came in in kits and were assembled here.

ps i'll put together as much as i can for you on Triumph Ireland history, also found a Herald coupe down in wexford, its an export 1200 (GB chassis code) with a 12/50 engine and its a '62 to '64 needing restoration, i don't think the owner will part with it, it was brought into Ireland in 1982. i won't be around for Terenure, feckin wedding to go to, so we'll have to meet up some other time.

My father says that the cars were (mostly) fully assembled on the lines in the UK, then disassembled, packed in crates, shipped over here, then reassembled. Its the kind of stuff that'd give Toyota efficiency experts nightmares!

I presume my Irish reg MK1 2000 was assembled here. It doesn't have a chassis number stamped on it, just the liitle plate riveted on it.

Thanks for the info, but I have no idea yet that your car may have been assembled here, although it sounds like it was.

    Thanks,
    Ken.

Thats usually a giveaway of irish assembly,as they had to use local suppliers as much as possible. Irish assembled Beetles, and Fords i think too had Shamrock etchings also.

As far as I can remember the Standard Triumph place you are thinking about was in Percy Place.
I used to stop & watch them working on the cars when I was cycling home from Mount Street Tech in the 50s.
There was a car electric shop on the opposite side of Percy Place.
