I've got a job interview next week. It's for an academic position and the job is split between 3 universities. So far I have been dealing with one person from one of the uni's. He has been very friendly when we had an informal chat on the phone and has said I'm welcome to ask him any questions before the interview. I'm currently preparing for the interview by researching his work.

Would it be acceptable to ask him who else is on the interview panel so that I can prepare in a similar way to meet the other people or would this come accross a bit stalkerish?

It's perfectly acceptable and you don't need to explain why you are asking either :)

Thanks folks. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions before next week. It's the first time I've actually had to do a job interview. In the past I've been lucky enough to be offered jobs out of the blue.

In an academic environment, it would be acceptable, but you have to be careful about canvassing, as they call it. Basically, if you are talking to any member of the panel, you must make it clear that you are applying for the job and they will be interviewing you. They then have the option of declining to talk to you.

This is what a HR person in an academic institution told me when I was making inquiries about a position.

Thanks TD, It was more a case of me making sure I have read their recent publications than wanting to actually talk to them beforehand. As it turns out, I actually know one of the people involved.

I did warn you I would have more questions. Is it ok to take notes into an interview? One part of the job involves developing new structures for teaching methods. In my research of the area I've come accross some useful documentation from other countries. They have some nice charts in them that might be useful. Would it be ok to take in a folder of materials with me?
