I've always steered clear of non-name brand cameras, you usually get what you pay for.

Yes 10MP of crap still equals crap. For the same money you'd probably get a 6MP of a known brand which would take better pictures.
pixels.ie have a fuji finepix a800 8MP with 512MB card & batteries for the same money, which is a walk in store.

Agree absolutely - pick up a Fuji FinePix F31 instead - have a look at the bundles for all the extra bits n' bobs you might need with it. Been using one for the last few months and it really is a superb little 6MB camera which gets great reviews. It's brilliant in low light situations at 800asa.

Just out of interest and not being smart here, how do you know this camera is crap, have you used one or read reviews, appreciate your comments please

Well, I bought one for the laugh and was very surprised. It's less gimmicky than I was led to expect and it certainly takes a very good picture (I'll post one up later).

My girlfriend just bought a Panasonic Linux for €480 and the differences in quality are minute, if any. Perhaps the build is inferior, but I can live with that as I look after my equipment.. Oo-er missus.

In comparison to the Fuji it outperforms it in LCD size, Pixel Quality and size , Optical Zoom (3x compared to 10x) and Digital Zoom and I think shutter speed

    Picture later

I'm curious that you think it outperforms a panasonic camera in pixel size. Presumably the fuji has less pixels than the traveller. This means the fuji has a much better pixel size as they will be larger than the pixels on the traveller. More pixels = smaller pixels which means generally means more noise as the signal needs to be amplified more. If you think you are better just because it has more pixels then you are deluding yourself. More pixels does not equal better pictures.

btw the zoom is 6x not 10x. It has a digital zoom of 10x but a digital zoom is less than useless. I went lloking for a review of this camera and couldnt find one. Then I seen that this camera has also been released as the Minox DC 1022. I did a search for reviews of that and found nothing but press releases. Not a good sign. I think you would be better off spending your money on a well reviewed camera from a major brand. Given that the Fuji F31 is the same price you would be better off going for that

Well, I too try not to get too excited about pixels too, but I was just stating a fact. But of course you are indeed correct about the optical zoom.

It's certainly much better then my Sony Cybershot DSC-P41

By the way, here's a bit of discussion (including some shots) from a Traveler a couple of models beneath this one

my friend bought this. Its a nice cam for the money.

Auto-focus is really quick but it has no auto-review of photos which is a tad annoying.

Hi Smurf, it actually does have an auto-review.. I don;t have the camera with me but it's there somewhere

That first aldi link doesn't work anymore, has this camera actually gone on sale yet or has it been and gone?

Yes, that's what I meant by my "10MP of crap=crap" comment. Certainly for a point & click camera 5/6MP is plenty & other factors come into play.

    Nice pics BTW.

Been more than happy with this camera, its class in my opinion, I dropped it recently, no visible damage but lens would not close when camera was switched off, displayed 2 error messages, sent the camera to Germany by reg post last Friday week explaining the problem

Got a new camera delivered by GLS today

No optical zoom though. I reckon you're better in sticking with the well-known brands (Canon, Nikon, Fuji, etc.) for digital cameras. You get what you pay for.

(USD106.00) does not look like a great deal, see above link although handy for roughing around and is very slim

Actually a 5mp camera, bit naughty to describe it as 10.

I bought the previous version of this camera last year, I found the camera really good quality for picture and video - the sound was a bit crap but the pictures compensated. I travelled to China and Australia and had no problems with it - BUT - about 3 weeks ago i was in Kilkenny and she just stopped working - I’m having loads of trouble getting it repaired - to be honest I will probably but a new one. I got the run around from the shop and the manufacturer

I wouldn't buy anything from ALDI \LIDL as the stuff looks pretty terrrible and besides Dixons are doing a 9 Megapixel Fuji camera for 139 at the moment which looks very good and is from a major brand

At the moment I am using a 5 megapixel Olympus fe-115 which I got for 89e from Boots and the pictures are excellent quality and it has 2.8x optical zoom etc

I agree. Aldi give an excellent 14 day, no quibble, return guarantee on all of their sales + 3 years guarantee on most electrical items - including this camera, I think.

I'm using an excellent pc I bought there about 4 years ago & have bought some good peripherals. The exception was a webcam I bought last week & returned today for a full cash refund. It worked alright but I didn't like colour rendition.

I bought the Canon Powershot A560 off 7 Day Shop this weekend.
    40 euro cashback on it.
Works out ~105 euro for a 7M pixel camera and it is highly rated .
Cant go wrong at that price.

I bought one of these last April for $99.00. It takes good close -up pictures but becomes blury and shaky when you zoom out. generally speaking, it is not as crispy as I think a 10.1mp should, or maybe my expectations are high.

The reason this lidl camera that u bought is blurry and shaky is that it probably doesn't have a very good sensor. Also i doubt it is a true 10 MP camera for that price. I've seen a number of them around on the net and the 10MP is achieved through magnifying the image a few times inside the camera. Can't remember what the exact term is. Think it might be interpolarization or something
