Since a mod so kindly locked the last one..

Following on, so I have the Windows XP media centre CD Key on my computer..

(The computer is HP, so I am guessing HP OEM)

Someone said that any Win XP media centre CD will work..

So supposing I get one of those cd's (alot cheaper than buying it new with license)

I already have regular Win XP home installed on this PC (runs out in 6 days) if I am to change/upgrade to Windows XP Meda centre.. will I loose all my info on the pc? (games, programs, etc) i.e. will I have to do a clean install?

thanks for the replies to previous post

you won't be able to use a hp key with a standard oem cd.

you'll need the cd that came with the HP CD.

When you ex trial expires you need to ring microsoft and purchase a licence key, at which point they will give you a key that will work on your computer.

if the computer your putting it on has a xp med licence key sticker on it, its a valid license. Therefore ring hp and ask to buy a replacement cd, and they'll ask for the serial number blah blah off you computer

also if you get the cd from hp, you shouldn't have to activate it as said in your previous thread. dell/hp/IBM oem keys do not require activation
