Small increase in Sky subscription

I got a letter yesterday letting me know there was going to be a small increase in my sky bill.

After a quick read it turns out the small increase is in fact almost 30%. I would love to see what they consider a large increase.

I have (had) Sky+, 6 mix, movies and multi room. Looking at dumping sky or at least getting rid of movies.

Anyone else getting a not so small increase.

    No letter yet...

Can you give details of what you pay now, and what the increase is.

30% seems extraordinary. Is there some unusual reason for this? ie, a change in Sky policy re: multiroom?

Just checked digitalspy, they are reporting approx 7% on the smallest packages to approx 4% on the bigger packages. So your 30% seems odd.

    Ix.

If anything the cost should come down especially for Sky Sports which is losing packages left right and centre.
I'm paying almost 2 euro a day now and I honestly think that is not value for money.

Hi guys, i on the other hand got a very lovely letter from SKY  to inform me of a DECREASE in the cost of my VARIETY MULTIROOM package, the letter goes on to say that from the 1st of Sept the SAVING for me will be from my existing cost of €45.47 per month to a new and improved low of €45, with this enormously generous offer i was thinking of upgrading, but on reflection i took the hump and i am going to downgrade my package and cancel my multiroom deal, what a bloody cheek to give such a mean tight fisted decrease in costs
And when i ring to do this i intend to be very vocal in my opinion of their sorry ass offer.

Hahaha voyager - I literally "laughed out loud" when I read this!! 47c discount?! Fooking hell, it cost them more than that to post you that letter! I hope for their sake it's a misprint. Either way, happy ranting mate! ;)

I got a letter the other day telling me how much of a valued customer I am and that just because I'm such a nice guy they'll give me Sky HD for €300 as opposed to €450 (plus the €15 per month). I felt at the time I was being buttered up for something ;)

A few existing customers have been receiving that letter. Check this thread..

Imagine that, a business trying to make money. One would think you were forced to subscribe or something.

If you are this angry now, I'd hate to see you if they increased the price! :)

Not worth ranting about to them IMO.

hi JDxtra, i almost agree with you but as i am a person who after years of loyal custom with SKY feel that a €0.47 cut in cost, is to me anyway an insult and not a step towards keeping me as a customer happy. And i have to let them know how i feel, thats my way.

Why not just send an email or draft a letter to the customer services dept addressed to the revelent person who would be responsible for the €0.47 decrease in your sub, or just cancel completely, instead of taking it out on the operator who will be unfortunate enough to take your call.
I'm sure they cant wait for that.

:) I hate them as much as most people.

Kbell i have no intention of taking it out on an operator who will just happen to be on duty when i place my call, my dis-satisfaction will be directly and solely aimed at the SKY company and no one else, i am not one to individualise an issue such as this through an employee when its the dog and not the tail i want to get at.
p.s. An e-mail or letter is not as effective as one to one voicing of opinion when it concerns a matter like this ( my opinion )

mossy monk, i don`t hate them i am just responding to what i consider a very poor customer offer, after all 47c per month is a disgraceful cut in cost, they would be better suited to lowering the price of multi-room to try and secure both the product and the packages that people want with it.

Today I got my Sky magazine (which I really don't need and for which I am told i pay €3 as part of my subscription).

In a letter within the magazine I get "IMPORTANT: advance notification of changes to your suscription payment" with oh my God, I can't believe it: €1 REDUCTION.

Seems to me that Sky are changing different customers different prices. Our subscription has gone UP from €56.47 to €58 per month... This is for the original Sky Family pack and Sky Sports.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,259 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

I just called to thank them for the price reduction and told them that I like to reduce my package and she was sure. No attempt to keep me, no offer for 1/2 price or anything.

Well now I'm going to write them and tell them to keep the magazine and credit me 3€...

They will keep the magazine, but you can be sure that they will not credit you €3.

hi dublin-texas, i will be canceling my multi-room and reducing my package myself in the next few days, even an attempt to offer a deal would not interest me at this stage, when you consider what you can get free to view on the second box its worth having that alone. Out of interest is there a notice period for canceling, eg; like a months notice or so.

Hi voyager, nope no notice period in my case, she told me it goes in effect between 4 minutes and 4 hours and I lost access to the channels I downgraded from about 2 hours later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

There is one month notice to cancel entirely or downgrade after an upgrade, in that you pay for 1 month minimum.

Any chance of the original poster saying what the new cost of Multiroom with full package is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,042 ✭✭✭kaizersoze

Got the letter a couple of days ago aswell. I had movies & sports free for 2 months as part of the deal when I signed up and that had just expired. They were delighted to inform me that if I kept them my monthly sub would be reduced from 62.48 to 62, whoopee, what an incentive. I cancelled the extras.

Got my letter yesterday including the ad boasting that the cost of Sky+ has reduced as install fee is €45, instead of €75. Wow.

I have Sky World, gone from €66 to €68. So that's a tiny bit over 3%, maybe the OP got their decimal places wrong.

I think it was €59.50 when I joined Sky three years ago. It is shocking but I want the channels. I want Sky+ too but I'll hold out as long as it takes to get a decent offer. No nice letters offering me anything, despite the fact I've bought the PremuPlus ticket every year and paid for many WWE ppvs.

Any chance of you posting the details of how you got hit with a 30% increase because nobody else has had that experience.

I had sky+ multiroom but I cancelled the multiroom a few days ago and got an email advising that the new monthly rate would be €40.50. I queried this as I have the sports channel with 6 mixes and I got a reply from a different person saying that they made a mistake and the new monthly premium would be €55.00.

I then got the magazine and the letter saying that the monthly rate was going up from €72.51 to €73.00 which obviously included the multiroom. As the multiroom is now cancelled my monthly payment will be €58.00 from September which is an increase of €3.00.

BTW has anyone got a decent link to a decent site that shows the prices of the various packages.

I got a letter from them saying a decrease by about 47c and get Sky+ with no extra cost a month. Is this a new offer? Also the Sky+ box is 150 euro. Not too bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 833 ✭✭✭batman2000

The Sky+ box has been €149 for a while now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,964 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

My subscription is going up from 55.50 to 58 euro per month for Sky World plus Sports.
The only channels I really watch are mostly Free to Air or the Sports channels.
I cant justify that outlay anymore so I am getting a motorised Satellite system and cutting back on Sky.

I got a letter on friday from sky informing me of an increase from 66.45 to 68.00euros from the 1st of Septemberso i send them an e-mail saying i would cancell my subscription from september ,so I will wait with intrest

    DSCF0198.jpg

they are droping the sky + charges in september, as long as you pay not free if you are freeeview only.

it was free for me anyway, as i had the full package

    i said i was leaving, i was!

but they put me on 3 euro a month, with news and living package, inc variety.till august. so i'm still a customer and dont have to ay again to reconnect. i wonder what they will offer to get me back in august.

rte and tv3 had all the football for last season, sky sports 1,2,3 and xtra was rubbish, so were the movies. nothing is on any channel, as loads of series have ended.

i love the way they say we are giving more so charging more,

sky by bb, sky by mobile, anytime..... i dont want any of that. more football matches, i'll watch them on rte or bbc anyway.

they need a max charge not the bull of, 68 + 15[multi] + 15[sky +] + 15[hd]= 98 euro max for sky hd with multiroom

i thought it was 66 euro a month but the letter says 67.23 going to 68?

Sorry I am away quite a bit with work but I have replied to this thread twice but none of them appear to have actually posted.

It turns out I had never been billed for my multiroom and they had only started to invoice it now. As I never use it (and my wife rarely uses it) I am cancelling it.

I have just downgraded my sky packages (after my one year contract is up) - they applied the changes immediately and have credited me back for the rest of the month that I prepaid for.

This is what I got when I cancelled a few days ago:

    Customer Account Number: XXXXXXXXXX

Thank you for your email regarding the cancellation of your account.

As your request to cancel your account was received on 5/7/2007, your account will be cancelled on 4/8/2007, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract.

I trust that this information assists

I got a letter last week from sky saying the cost of my package would be reduced. its the old "family pack" or i suppose the current equivalent is all mixes

(i am thinking of ditching multiroom too, and replace it with a sub to setanta)

Yeah I think if you cancel you give a months notice but if you down grade they sort out a credit on your bill.

I'm a new customer of Sky. The sent me a letter confirming cost and payment details. All in, inc. HD, it's €81pm as per the contract and the first payment period is to 11/08/07. However, they say in the same letter that from 01/09 they are increasing my monthly charge to €83.

Before joining, I seem to remember reading on the Sky website that there would be no increases for a certain period of time (months I think). This stood out for me as all the other info was about how they were going to get more money from me. I can't find this info now though. Do I recall this correctly? Anyone else read something like this?

    They do say this:
Sky will not increase the cost of your chosen subscription package by more than 10% in the first 12 months of your contract. This doesn't prevent Sky from decreasing the cost of the subscription package within the initial 60 days.
but it was something else I read.
