    Clicky below for the slideshow:

I got bored at work on Tuesday and took a few photos. :D

They probably aren't to the highest stanard - the lighting in the showroom is horrible, being very Dim and Glare-ful, and I didn't think to bring a polariser. It also marked the first time I've actually shot cars with any seriousness, and I was mostly trying for abstract shots I can sell as prints.

I think they look great. The shots where you've cropped tighter seem to work alot better for me, where there is less clutter from the showroom. It really makes the subject stand out. The processing works really well for me too, lots of mood and atmosphere and I like the close up shots as well.
    Very nice.

    Pete.

The two mercedes ones in the middle are fantastic (much as I hate saying it, nothing to do with your photos but I am a ferrari f1 fan). The one with the door up is great, it would be even better without the shine on the floor.

    Nice work.

    Fabulous work Mark. Fair play.

Is that a LR template you used for the slideshow?

Yeah thats Lightroom. I was using it but now its the new SimpleViewer!! I didnt have it on my site an hour before 3 more people had started using it, and that's just from my contacts! Its handy and looks well though.

Those are fantastic. That merc (9 & 10 /23) wins it for me.

The Mercedes was a pain to photograph as our greenscreen is right next to it, so my flashgun kept lighting up the strobes.

The showroom is looking to hire me, which is pretty swish.

What did you do to the images with the black surrounding them, 9 etc?
I'm not fond of the effect myself.

16 is a fabulous photo, love the composition and the dof.
Gives a real vibe that Ferrari's stand out among other cars, even though us lot know the rest are Ferrari's too!

Is this what you do when you are bored, I would love to see a few of your photos when you are shooting something you are interested in! Brilliant set! I think you should show some of them to some calendar publishing crowd.

It's tempting, but shooting in the dealership is something of a grey area right now - Penske-Wynn entirely forbid any shooting within there, although they are mulling changing that as Joe Tourist with a point-and-shoot doesn't hurt anyone. I got away with it as I'm an official photographer (I put people in a Ferrari and pose them, whee).

I'm a contractor, and thus a guest of the dealership, who in turn are essentially guests at the Wynn hotel.

The long and short is that they would take a dim view of someone hawking professionally composed photos that were taken in the dealership without their express permission.

On a less grim note, I plan to shoot as much of the Strip as I can in IR on Saturday before work.

Rich: I used the Quick Selection Tool (PS CS3) to outline the car, and then just burnt everything.

One thing I found especially handy in post-processing that I stumbled upon was that I could essentially split the file, work on contrast and colour seperately, and then merge them. I created B&W and colour files from the raw, worked on everything until I was happy and then just overlaid the colour picture on the black and white one (blending to colour).

I was wondering how that worked with you just wandering into a dealership with your camera.

Did you do your trademark 'lying on the floor' stance in there...?

    Hah, I wish.
