Playing trick on work colleague

A work colleague of mine who is not very computer literate purchased a laptop a few months ago which came with a load of bundled trail versions of various good and bad software, and a 90 day Norton Anti Virus package. She is now afraid to use it as she feel she has no anti virus protection. She has asked me to get her a free anti virus and install it, and to remove anything that I consider unnecessary. Basically I have carte blanche to do whatever I want. Obviously I will be helpful, I don't think I can miss this great opportunity to have a bit of fun.

What nasties can I do to the laptop that won't be permanent but will cause a bit of shock and horror?

If After Hours is not the right place for this please feel free to move it.

Stick a picture of a naked woman up as her background.

She may even like it and keep it...

Set the scheduler to perform some task/play a song every now and then.

Just do a print screen, then set it as the desktop background. Its quick to do, and wont do any damage. they will think they have shagged up the PC already.

Take a screen shot of the desktop and save it to the hard drive.
Then set this image as the desktop wallpaper.
Hide the start bar/taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
Hide all icons from the desktop

So as a result, the person boots up their machine, sees the regular desktop but clicking on icons and the start menu do nothing.

Alternatively make the default mouse button the right button. Change the cursor speed to something incredibly quick or incredibly slow. Change the double click speed to the fastest possible. Finally, if the mouse settings has some kind of calibration utility (you know the one where you move the mouse in order to get the hot air ballon or car to the top of the screen) use this but move the mouse horizontally instead of vertically - so when they move the mouse upwards the cursor will move left or right.

    yeah, thats a good one.
The last time i done this, the guy had an Nvidia card, so you could set the screen to be upsidedown, so i took the screengrab, then inverted it (so it's upside down), then inverted the screen. So the picture is right way up, but the controls are totally inverted.

Also, setting up the sound scheme so that it plays the same (hopefully long and irritating) MP3 for various Windows events, but instead of having one file for all the events, have multiple copies of the same file, named differently, and scattered throughout the machine.
The extra kicker is once an event starts, the sound file is loaded into memory, and has to play through, there is no way to stop it, not even deleting the file itself.

Oooh, I've done that one... I used the original hamster dance song IIRC (not the lame techno ones)... this was in a call-center too so it was extra funny knowing customers could hear it :D

Don't click this in work, school, anywhere your mammy can see you.
Actually just dont click it at all.
But it does make a decent prank.

[actually better not link it in public, lest I get banned again ;)]

    Startup
then get the shortcut and drag it into there.

If theres any shortcuts on the desktop, change the link destination inside to something funny, like a logout batch file or something.

    google a program called sub7.
great for palying pranks if you can install it on someones machine. Used to do it in college, you can flip peoples screens upside down, make thier screen go compeltely black with a little flashing green cursor a la 'wake up neo' and type whatever you like in it, or jsut take full control of thier machine, all done remotely from your own pc :D
some of these are evil ideas tho!

Go into autocorrect in Word and make it so that every time she types in her name in Word something really random like Petulia or Gay Porn or even your boss's name comes up instead.

Make a folder on her desktop and give it a title of something illegal/disturbing/fetish-related, use your imagination. Then take a screenshot, delete the folder and set the screenshot as the background. Watch as they freak out trying to delete it and hide it from passers-by.
