I was wondering what makes people fart? I myself have noticed (over quite some time now) that im farting a lot troughout the day. I was wondering what makes people fart?

I myself have noticed (over quite some time now) that im farting a lot troughout the day. Personaly i havent really got much of a problem with it in my own bedroom, maybe in public, but id like to know how i can stop it.
Reason being (partialy) ive been going out with someone for a little while and (althou she says it doesnt really bother her) its a little embarasing letting one go and her smelling it.

As a side note, they can be quite smelly so much so i have made a friend get sick twice in the past (he has a weak stomach)
