Does anyone know where you can buy manuals or notes for the QLTT exams? Its proving kind of difficult since Portobello stopped offering the course and the Law Society are a little vague about the syllabus. Thanks!

Did you have any luck tracking down materials?
I was under the impression you just studied university standard textbooks, nutshells etc..
    Same standard as FE1s..
Sitting the exam in Novemebr myself,hopefully..

The past papers cost €30 from the Law Society and the couse content is published on their website. I am not aware of any books that are written specifically for these exams. I study in the Law Society Library in Smithfield. They are very good facilities down there and if you ask they will probably let you use the library.

I'm qualified in New York. If anyone decides to study in the library in Smithfield and are interested in study groups or anything like that, then get in touch, eohanrahan@hotmail.com

Hi. I never found a complete body of material for these exams. I ordered the past papers and they have been very helpful. The same questions seem to come up time and again. The Law Society recommended asking someone who had completed the Professional Practice Course for their manuals - that seems to be the best option todate as the PPC materials cover pretty much the same syllabus as the one laid out on the website for the QLTTs. I'm not in Ireland or I would love to meet to go over study plan etc. Good luck with your prep.

Its funny there's very little on the exam online etc,a hard one to nail down.
For example, when they say "Land Law and Conveyancing" as being one of the exams,I wonder if thats the standard Land Law course covered in university (which had elements of conveyancing included)or if a much greater depth of conveyancing is required.
I am going to collect the materials from the law society this week, should be interesting.
The past papers should be revealing, although Im worried about what level of case-knowledge(quoting case-names etc) is required.
    Times a-wasting.

Well three weeks to go now, things not looking so good...
Apart from the usual boredom and long windedness of land law,I cant find anything whatsoever on Solicitors Accounts and I m struggling with Porbate and Tax as I dont know which texts to use.
I tried James Bradys Irish Succession Law book but that is very little help with the problem case questions.
As for Taxation I have no idea what materials to use.
    Aaaaargh!
    Any ideas??

Hi. So sorry. Didnt see your message until just now. It was nice of the person to post the QLTT link above but I think thats mostly English materials.
For tax I got the Taxation Summary book for 2007 from ITI (31st Edition). It was only about 40euro. The chapters are very concise and easy to understand. I also think that reading past Qs should give you a good sense of the topics and issues that are frequently raised.
I havent had much of a chance to study because of work but sure I'll give them a shot.
    Best of luck!

guys, did you take the test in the end? I sat mine in December 07 and was really disappointed to have failed! I'm due to have another go in the next few weeks with BPP but feel a little unconfident now. Can do virtual study groups i.e online & via telephone if anyone's interested. gwengoring@yahoo.co.uk

Is anyone else doing the EU Law exam this June??

Alternatively, has anyone done this exam before - how'd you find it?

Advice, tips would be much appreciated!

I'm using the Law Society's European Law Text 4th Ed and have a set of past papers. Seems grand so far but am slightly hating the self-directed learning aspect of the QLTTS!!! Why don't they offer preparatory courses for these exams?!?!!?

I am taking EU. I have the Griffith book and the Law Society (Oxford Press) book and a couple of others. WHile going through the exam papers, the Law Society book seems to be the best.

    Comprehensive Irish QLTT materials available

Comprehensive set of QLTT materials available in Dublin.

I have completed all the QLTT exams in the Law Society and have a pretty comprehensive set of notes, solutions, texts, past papers and legislation on all topics which I am willing to sell to others sitting the exam.

    My notes include the following
    -

    - A comprehensive summary on each of the relevant topics in Criminal,Land,Tort,Contract,EU Law,Constitutional and Probate and Tax.

    - solutions done out to the recurrant questions in several of the exams.

    - complete package for the solicitors accounts exam (which was very troublesome to assemble) which includes solutions to each of the questions, which are the same each year.

    - the Guide to professional ethics which I used to pass the conduct oral exam.

    - The relevant legislation on Tax together with the Revenues guides as well as the Succession Act 1965 and Mongeys “Probate in a nutshell”.

    - A complete set of past papers

    The cost is €300
I will sell them separately if someone should so wish.

This is not an official Law Society compilation but my own, however I passed all 6 exams I sat without difficulty using these materials in November and am very confident I passed my remaining two (Probate/Tax and Solicitors Accounts) which I sat last month.
I received my Cert of Eligibility following qualifying in New York in 2007.

Any interested parties send an email to cormboy@hotmail.com

    Hi,

I have the materials from BPP and have taken their assured pack. Which gives all the material necessary for passing the exam. I have passed the Common Law exam with an A grade. I am attempting the rest of the three papers this September. In September I'll be willing to sell all these materials for a reasonable price.

I can also provide some tips on taking the exam.
You can email me at nudratpiracha@gmail.com

Does anybody have any idea when the results from the June QLTT will be sent?

Hi everyone, I just took and passed the QLTT and have a few materials for sale. I used OneWorldStudies which I thought had very comprehensive materials. Since I only needed to take Head III (Professional Conduct, Accounts and Financial Services) I have materials only for this Head. Materials include 3 video CDs (one for each part of the exam) and books / notes for each part together with a past test papers + model answers booklet.

Since OneWorldStudies did not offer the test in my country, I ultimately ended up using Altior for the test administration - and have their notes as well. Altior's notes are also very good - very simple and concise.

It'll be GBP 200 for the OneWorldStudies materials (including video CDs) and GBP 150 for the Altior materials (only notes, for each part). Shipping extra.

    Thanks.

Is this not now the Skillset course in the Law Society?

If so it's about €450 and no test.
