Here is a list of the 100 Scariest Movie Scenes.

    http://www.retrocrush.com/scary/index.html

Predictably the shower scene from Psycho is number 1. There are some strange scenes in there as well as a scene from the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory made the list, as well as a scene from Dumbo!. Surprising that scenes from kids films could be considered as some of the scariest scenes in movie history.

These lists are always pure bollocks.

Just off the top of my head, where is The Ring (original) the part at the end regarding the TV is far scarier than most of the movies to make that list, how about the first Nightmare on Elm Street, Prince of Darkness.

Both Nightmare on Elm Street and Prince of Darkness are in that list somewhere.

I can see how people would vote for certain kids films though, a lot of people develope fears of clowns as a result of childhood experience, so why would films be any different, if something scares the #### out of you as a child its going to stick with you.

Good lord yes. I remember renting Ringu when it was first released, having only read a review in the IFC mag (the IFI now) and knowing nothing else. Me and a mate watched it and for about six or seven minutes after the movie ended, neither of us moved or said a word. We were petrified. Then we showed it to a bunch of other mates who literally started screaming during that bit. And we were all about 19 at the time! I love movies that can do that to you. Shame they're absolutely rare now. :(

As for kids' movies, there are plenty of kid-aimed entertainment that can be terrifying. Check this out as an example- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ak3z2Pm7Iwg

Read this once and dont remember seeing one moment from the omen on it. Or that Cristopher Lee film...cant remember the name....in Venice chases a girl in a red coat...

Anyway two ommissions that should have been on there.

I think the girl in the red coat film you're thinking of is Don't Look Now. Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie are in it.

Spot on. Thats the film. The ending of that is crazy. Really unexpected.

These kinda lists are just entirely pointless. Nobody will ever agree on them, which is part of the beauty of film, as everyone gets a different experience from watching a film, it's not something that can be measured or quantified. People who even try miss the point entirely.

Oh, and this was already posted on the Horror board.
