They took it off on preparation for putting on a retractable roof in 2008, to be ready for 2009.

Will Centre Court be closed so for 2008?

I remember them doing without Court No. 1 a few years ago while they were re-doing it.

it just goes to show the lack of interest in tennis .. the lack of posts here and its Wimbledon 2007..

I love tennis and i'm hooked on wimbledon and follow the womens tour for the rest of the year but this foerum is like a ghost town. I tried to start a discussion about the French open but it got like 4 replies. Its a pity but its a minor sport here.

Ooh, I'll have a discussion with you about Wimbledon!!
I was over there last week from tuesday - friday. The best match I saw was Jelena Jankovic beat Lucie Safarova. I was totally up for Lucie and she tried so hard but just couldn't win in the end. I really enjoyed it.

Did you see that match on tv this evening with Serena against Hantuchova. Fantastic! I was gutted Hantuchova didn't win it. She totally had the opportunity and as usual didn't succeed. She totally lacks confidence and the ability to win! If there hadn't been that rain delay when there was Serena may have been forced to retire. I'm not a bit fan of the Williams sisters at all. I'm a Justine Henin fan and I got to see her recently at the final of the french open. She played so well there and is flying through her matches in Wimbledon. She looks like she may finally win it.
And Nadal going to 5 sets after having a match point in the 3rd. Wouldn't you just kick yourself?!

I think Safarova is going to turn into a fantastic player she has beaten Mauresmo twice already this year. As for the Serena match it had me gripped all evening, she is so luck it started to rain because she would definitely have had to forfeit. Hantuchova had that match within her reach but it just faded away from her.
I'm a fan of Amelie Mauresmo and now she is out and having watched her match against Nicole Vaidisova she deserved to lose because she didn't play well enough to win. Henin is going to win for sure but her next match with serena is going to be intruiging to say the least.
As i write this Nadal is still waiting to finish his 5th set thats gotta be frustrating.

Yeah, I was really hoping Nadal would get to finish tonight. Can't believe thats still only his third round match! I'm getting a little worried for him! Soderling is playing some great tennis.
I'm actually backing Roddick to win this year but I'm sure Federer will stop him in his tracks.

I can't stand that fist pumping little tosser Nadal .. he was 2-0 and he crawled back and now is a break up in the 5th .... god I hate the arrogant little

Awhh! I like him, i loved how he said in his spanish accent "Here they don't think about the players" Hes right they should have played on Sunday. I feel sorry for Nadal if he has to get to the final he has to play best of 5 set matches 5 days in a row - in a grand slam thats ridiculous.

    He got lucky today.
Youzhny romped through the first 2 sets but then injured his back and was visibly affected for the rest of the match.
    Good match though.
Nadal doesnt look half as muscular in white,in fact his right arm looked quite puny today.;)

I wish Kuznetsova had knocked Venus out. I don't like either of the Williams sisters. Thankfully Justine finished Serena off yesterday. She is so gonna win! I thought recently that Serena's grunting is turning aggressive! Must be a tactic to scare her opponents.
Close call for Ivanovic too but I'm glad she's through. Up to her now to knock Venus out.

    Come on Roddick!!!!!

Just watched some fantstic matches today - Bartoli beating Henin - amazing, Novak Djokovic coming through in 5 - enthralling, Displays of dominance by Venus, Nadal and Roger (minus the little scare) and now Roddick taken to the fifth set by Gaquet as i write this.
Today has got to be on of the best days of tennis i have watched.

How do you have time to watch so much tennis?
I caught the end of Justine's match and then the Roddick/Gasquet one from the tie break in the 4th.
Was gutted Justine lost. I really thought she was going to go all the way this year. I just hope Venus doesn't win it now.
And I have to say Gasquet played some fantastic tennis. If he can play like that against Federer tomorrow we should be seeing another excellent match. Can't wait!:D

Roddick/Gasquet was one of the best matches I've seen in a very long time, plus the Djokovic/Baghdatis was great too. Interesting Ladies final too.
Anyone else notice the hooligan-like fans Baghdatis seems to have with him all the time? Crazy cypriots chanting between sets is strange to watch tbh. :)

Ah it adds brilliantly to the matches, one thing about Baghdatis is that he always looks like he's enjoying himself, genuinely, when he's on court.

One thing I found funny; I work in a bookies and the amount of people asking for a price for Federer to drop a set in this tournament was unreal! It just really goes to show his iron grip on grass court. A euro on him to win today would have returned just 1 cent!!!

I'd love to see Bartoli win through by the way, she has showed incredible maturity and of course a little luck in her matches, a great competitor/giant slayer!

Federer was on fire, 21 aces, not really surprised I guess though.

Wasn't that a great day of tennis on bbc!? I only got up at about 12 and pretty much didn't move from the tv til after 8. Then I went out and played tennis for two hours!
Jankovic and Murray seem to have so much fun playing together. I'm just wondering how the pairing came about. Like, did he just ask her to play with him or what? Or did she ask him?
What does anyone reckon for tomorrows men's singles champion? Could be a really good match this year but I think Federer is still going to come out on top.

Jamie Murray said he wanted to played mixed doubles but didn't have a regular partner so at the last minute he decided to ask Jankovic and she said why not. But in one of Jankovic's press conferences she was asked if there was anything going on between them her reply was classic "That's the funniest thing i've ever heard!":o

Great final tbh, very entertaining. Still though, very pissed off Nadal didn't beat that poser - I mean 2 missed break points (twice!) in the final set! O and as per usual, Mr. Poser acting the whiny eejit complaining about every appeal.

Anyways good championship over-all with that Roddick/Gasquet match being the high-point.

Good final,I thought Nadal was the better player on the day.
In the first 4 sets Nadal broke Federer 4 times as opposed to Federer only having one break and that in the second game of the match.
Federer was looking very suspect at the start of the fifth and he saved 4 break points at 15-40 down in two games.
Nadal pushed him all the way and if he won either of those 2 games that would have been conclusive.
On a side note that blazer needs to be binned.
Horribly tacky ,with the winning years emblazoned on it.

Well after winning the title today I'm sure Jankovic is glad she said yes! Who'd have predicted Jamie winning a Wimbledon title before Andy?!

Good year for the french players too with Llodra/Clement winning the mens doubles, Bartoli reaching the final and Gasquet beating Roddick.
Oh yes, and a five set final. Great viewing. I agree with MisterAnarchy - I think Nadal played better and probably deserved it more, although Federer did hit some fantastic winners.

Nadal prob deserved to win today but then again I thought Federer was the better player in the final in Paris last month.
Federer only converted 3/14 break points that day .
Its all about taking your break points at their level.

Nadal will win this title. it's only a matter of time.
Loved the match! Thought it had it all. Feds play in those last few games showed why he is the man!
