Dell have decided to ditch the Dimension name for all their desktops and are re-branding them as Inspiron and new case design.
So Inspiron will be the budget PC and laptop brand, XPS being middle ground and XPS Gaming being the expensive ****.

I suppose it makes sense and keeps things consistent across all their products

That'll just confuse me -- will always associate Inspiron with laptops. I doubt the revamp will do all that much to try and fend off increased competition from HP though.

I can see why they'd get rid of the dimension name - its old and smelly and has been associated with some truly crappy products in the past, but using inspiron for desktop PC's? WTF?

Bit of a shame about the name drop. I liked the Dimension series. Dell will be launching a new line of Vostros shortly. This is all part of Michael Dell's reorganisation strategy, because as we know when he resigned as CEO HP did alot better than Dell in those two years. This is also the reason they want to adopt Ubuntu, but that's another debate.

    RIP, Dimension.

Also interesting, that with the new 1520/1, 1720/1 lappies and the "Inspiron" 530/1 desktop, theres only Vista options - you can't even request XP over the phone.

Nothing wrong with vista tbh. Its just stupid users not being able to actually think of a solution to a problem them selfs. Take bf2 for example. It refused to install on vista ultimate for me, no matter what. Then i thought sure, this game was around a long time before vista. I explored the dvd, and found bf2.exe. right click, and changed it to compatibility with winxp sp2. Bang, installed and works perfectly. Same with everything i have come across. Even programs that say they wont work with vista.

When it dosent do what you expect, dont just moan and rant. Think about the problem, and ty to find a way around it. I know that wont work for pc users who know little, but for the rest of them. Or if vista really bothers you that much, go out and buy xp and install it over vista.

if you buying over the internet , just ad xp to the end of the product code thingy in dell and they'll give you xp install options

    although
    Vista > Xp

    :P
