    Hey,

Im over in america for the summer and i was thinking i might invest in a ps3. The the 60gb version, one shop as it with an extra sony wireless controller for $600 which is about €450(not including tax- But as far as i know i claim tax back on all purchases, it would be $650 if tax was included) but i have a few questions , im sure someone has bought an american ps3 and i greatly appreciate any help you can give.

firstly am i right in saying PS3 games are region free?

Will i need a transformer to plug it into 220v?

Will it work on irish tvs?

I believe the american ps3 has a chip which the left out of the irish ones that allows you to play ps2 games, is this right? If so will it be region sensitive?(will my old ps2 games work on it?)

and lastly are blu rays region sensitive? I don't care if it plays irish dvds, but if your spending a good deal of money it would be nice to have the blu ray player too.

Oh yeah could i connect it up to a computer monitor? this little guy would work right?
    here

Cheers for any help you can give!!

    (1) Yes ps3 games are region free.
Will i need a transformer to plug it into 220v?

    (2) No you wont, just a normal kettle cable works.
Will it work on irish tvs?

    (3) It depends on your tv, HDTV will definetly, but if its a SDTV it will depend if it supports NTSC output.
I believe the american ps3 has a chip which the left out of the irish ones that allows you to play ps2 games, is this right? If so will it be region sensitive?(will my old ps2 games work on it?)

    (4) The american ps3 will not play any of your PAL games, it is region locked and will only play american games.
and lastly are blu rays region sensitive? I don't care if it plays irish dvds, but if your spending a good deal of money it would be nice to have the blu ray player too.

    (5) Blu-rays are region sensitive, but still some will work on all systems (region-free) here is a list http://bluray.lindsite.dk/. Just to tell you only American (region 1) DVDS will work.
Oh yeah could i connect it up to a computer monitor? this little guy would work right?

    (6) That link isn't working for the monitor.
Cheers for any help you can give!!

    You're Welcome

Oh and you cant claim the tax back by the way. They do not use a Vat system but a local state sales tax.

im not sure about claiming the tax back BUT you can definitely be charged VAT when you bring it back to ireland..........there are numerous ways to get around this but if you bring it into the country it can technically have vat charged on it
