Did Fianna Fail lean on RTE?

So then, Ms Flynn is up to her neck to trouble but Bertie thinks that she'll be back in the fold soon enough once her troubles, 'which she is working to resove' are sorted out.

Then "hey presto" RTE does a deal which leaves them about 1.5 million short. The pragmatic may say they sued for a quick peace knowing there was scant chance of getting the full 2.8 million if she was declared a bankrupt. Thats proberly true but a damned bad precedent to set, it makes suing a more attractive option for the wealthy and/or well-connected.

So when Bertie Ahern spoke did he already know or be pretty sure of the outcome of the case?

    Mike.

I don't think having to fork over €1.5m would make an ill-advised libel action attractive in anyone's eyes, to be honest.

The only thing that could would be if a court found the prosecution was wrong but didn't need to pay costs etc. despite this.

As for being leaned on, tough to say. RTÉ probably knew they wouldn't get much more going the other route - and their costs would continue to increase as they waited for Flynn's constitutional challenge to go through the motions... that was probably her plan all along.

Personally I was half expecting FF to help foot the bill after Bertie's positive comments about Flynn - looks like that hasn't happened.
