the manager of a certain shop located on Nassau Street this morning. I rang early as I thought this would be impressive.

From the get go it was a complete failure, a fuzzy line, a egotistical manager. Yes it was a complete disaster.

My first words were '' Is there any jobs available in your store?'

His rather blunt reply was ''NO''.

Then I said well I have my cv with the Spar application form, would I be better off dropping it in now or at the end of the summer(I thought this move would be succesful as it would indicate I was in it for the long haul)

However his reply was ''yeah, you would probably be better off leaving it until the end of the summer''

    I was horrifed, outraged even.

 So because there was no jobs you're outraged?

He saved you the money on a postage stamp or bus fare.

Lets see... you ring just after the Leaving Cert ends, when billions of muthaf*ckers wanting a job will swamp the jpbs market... half of which will have gotten the job sorted before the LC, and you're surprised?

Or would you prefer he took your CV, looked at it, remembered the 20 other CV's he got, yesterday, laughed, put it in the bundle, and leave you hanging for the next 2 weeks, wondering if you had gotten the job?

OP, I mean this in the nicest possible way: at this stage in the game, any job, no matter how bad, will be your summer job. Got my LC summer job a few months before the LC. So did a few friends. Some didn't, and ended up doing anything they could to get drinking money.

He did you a favour, now you know not to bother dropping a CV in there until after the summer.

Not the reception I was expecting. I wasnt that outraged, I just said that for a comical element. I know it probably was not funny.

I have to be honest I'm shocked at how competitive this job hunt is. I have had 3 previous jobs which I got with ease. I even got a job in Dunnes during July last year.

As demotivating as it can be, there isn't much you can do. It seems like you have a good tactic already, just keep on trying. I would, however, still drop off your cv to him.

Yeah good point. See what I am thinking is people generally go on holiday in July and August, especailly 6th year holidays, perhaps this would be my opening?

'' Is there any jobs available in your store?'

It's possible he's holding out for a native English speaker. There's not a whole lot you can do in that situation.
