Problems installing FTA system

I bought the Ferguson FTA receiver and dish from satellite.ie. I also bought a tuning meter.

I tried to install on Saturday but with no luck. The meter is giving a good signal but no signal being received at box. Checked connections etc. Dish pointing in same direction as nearby dishes. Any ideas? Should I just get a pro out to do the job?

Probabily on 19.2 instead of 28.2 or something, Try slightly east and slightly lower.

There are satellites nearly every 3 degrees.

Ditch the sat meter as its probably crap, the ferguson receiver isn't great either but it should have a built in signal meter, look in the menu set up, set the receiver to astra2/ eurobird and connect the sat cable to the dish and the receiver, set the dish so that the face of the dish is perpendicular to the ground, move the dish left and right untill you get a signal on the receiver, its as easy or as hard as that.

ps technomate 1000d is a better receiver

I don't know how good or bad Ferguson are, but he has it bought now, and it'll do the purpose it was intended for.

The sat meter is helpful too, it's just how ye use it! :)

So tell me when did you carry out an exhaustive review of the Ferguson to lead you to this conclusion? Do you even own one?

Telling someone to ditch equipment they have just bought is not exactly the best advice now is it?

The technomate may well be a better receiver but its over 30% more expensive looking at Uk sites.

Eve the cheapest Sat meter will let you find a Satellite and peak the dish. The Digital receiver is no use to "fine tune" till you actually have some satellite signal.

Yes, much better fun to move the dish a bit, come down the ladder, into the house check the signal, go back up the ladder, move the dish a bit etc. ;)

Perhaps its better to try the sat finder as it may not actually be crap.

Connected the receiver up to my sky dish which I know is correctly aligned. Still getting the same message i.e. Bad or no signal

Make sure the in the installation menu that you have astra 2 selected when you are connected to your sky dish. if you have this done and are still getting no signal then maybe you have faulty receiver.

Another thing to check is if the receiver has a LNB in and LNB out connector (loop through) that the cable is connected to the LNB in . Even this professional has done that one before.......

    Yep been there, done that!

Swallowed my pride and got the pro out. He had a signal within 5 mins. Basically the LNB needed twisting to an angle of about 45o whereas I had it straight.

Anyway up and running so thanks for comments.

The ferguson receiver is excellent by the way

Glad you got sorted but i'm wondering why you got no picture when you connected to your sky dish?

    45 degree angle?

Even with LNB straight, you shouldve gotten signal.

By straight, I presume you mean the cable entry facing the ground.

some lnb's (MTI's and others) are offset in relation to the cable feed, they have an arrow on the feed horn so you know which way is straight up .

The sky dish not giving a signal has baffled me

I had the cable connector of the LNB facing the ground. The guy twisted to approx 45o.
