Where in Ireland can you get Chorus /NTL i've been waiting on a call back from them forever as i've given up on the FTA system (but bf hasn't) Their site doesn't give very much information and if your address isn't on it, it just looks like they don't give a hoot

A better forum would be the Cable/MMDS/IPTV as this is specifically for satellite.
    Where are you living?

Well, NTL is available in Waterford, Galway, and Dublin. Chorus is in Cork, and Kilkenny (and areas or North Dublin?). Limerick has one or the other. I'm sure there are more places that have one or the other, not that it really matters now that they've merged (UPC).

One way of checking if cable is available in your area, is have a look down your street. Look on the pavement for manhole covers that say CATV on them (rather than Eircom, ESB or Bord Gais, etc).

Still, they should really be able to tell you over the phone..

I know they put a cable up my road about a year ago but i'm not sure whether or not that was for TV or Broadband, I live in the midlands in the countryside.

Where in Ireland can you get Chorus or NTL, I am living in the midlands out in the middle of the countryside is it possible to get it. I know cables went up my road about a year ago but unsure whether or not these were for TV or Broadband. I can never get a straight answer out of Chorus anytime i ring or go onto their website.

It'll be for both. CATV feed caries both the broadband and TV signal..

Should be no bother. I live in the middle of the country and have it. Good service, Setanta for free being the big plus

According to www.upc.ie NTL is available in Dublin, Galway & Waterford, while Chorus is for the remainder of the country.

NTL - Dublin, Galway, Waterford, Chorus the rest. Generally this is correct, but not universally - there are certain areas of Dublin (Swords, Malahide, and Dundrum) served by Chorus, and in Co Mayo, Chorus runs the cable systems, but NTL has the MMDS licence. This is all for historical reasons and shouldn't matter so much now that the company is all UPC.

Unless there is a problem with MMDS reception in your area, or unless you live in the tiny handful of towns served by 1974 licences (or in Dungarvan), there should be no problem with you being able to subscribe to either Chorus or NTL.

Incidently, I'm merging these two threads.

Due to be launched on both Ntl and Chorus mmds in the first 2 weeks of July. Setanta 1 is where 67 of Setanta's Premiership matches are due to be shown LIVE. The other 12 will be screened @3pm on Sat afternoons on Setanta Ireland

UPC are not putting their brand name on chorus or ntl until 2008
until then it is chorus a upc company and ntl a upc company.
upc are awaiting the upgrades of cable services etc to be brought to a certain
level ( undefined by them to the public ) I think they want to protect their brand. chello , jupiter etc are bband brand names they use.

They'd want to hurry up. They've made a mess of the formerly great NTL BB service and there is no notable improvement in TV services yet...

    Hello,

I was NTL costumer until now, but I will move to Swords and Chorus has too many channels for there fee, so I am thinking of switching to Sky, that seems to have more channels - like 4 packages for 26,- Euro a month.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,066 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

It won't be Chello. That is used by UPC solely for its internet services, the television services are usually branded UPC.

The NTL name has to be dropped as UPC don't own it. It is still owned by Virgin Media, and is indeed is still used in the UK for Virgin's business telephony services which are branded "NTL Telewest Business". It may be that UPC has negotiated an extension of their branding agreement with Virgin however.

UPC own the full rights to the Chorus name, but I can't see it lasting long either.
