I work for a chauffeur company and somebody recently mentioned to me about weddingsonline.ie and how we should advertise on it. I checked it out and it may be worth investing some money to advertise on it. My question is do many of you planning weddings use it and is it one of the most popular or useful wedding sites in Ireland?

For example if you did see details of a chauffeur company on it would you be more likely to contact them first or would you have a look at local papers, advertisements etc..

Anecdotal information suggests this is a very popular site with people planning weddings - esp women. You should ring them and ask them for their rate sheet, and how many hits they get on their site per day. I would suggest doing a small test campaign and measure the results tightly.

    Best of luck !

OMG YESSS!!!! Go for it....I organised practically my whole wedding through advertisements and testimonials on WOL. Got the DJ, the singer, the harpist, the photographer, the ring maker, the cake, the cars, my lord, they should pay me commission at this stage!!!

I would be a bit cautious as - being a regular user - I would imagine that the vast majority of 'hits' are to the forums, NOT to the 'main site'.

Grrrr:mad: I posted a long reply, but it didn't come up!!!

Anyway, what I was saying was, I registered on WOL in Jan 06, booked all I could through it (see previous post) and only went into the forums in Jan 07 when I was having a prob with my dress...

Oh I have no doubt that people source their suppliers directly from the advertising. I was just saying that the page stats could be fairly misleading - one forum member could easily knock up a few hundred impressions a day if they visit a lot. I also reckon that some people (myself certainly) are far more likely to source suppliers through personal recommendations in the forum than through an ad on the main page.

It's not a scan on the main page, you do a search for the item you're looking for and a list of suppliers come up...you then do your own research into the shortlist you've created

I was thinking of advertising on the wedding sites. But again was wondering what sort of hit rate they get. You can always check something like Alexa, (check your spyware checker afterwards) but again the hit rate can vary depending what they use for the figures. but I am thinking of doing a wedding fair when one comes up. Anyone know when they usually are and where? TIA

Yeah, usually spring and summer...where are you located? I know for Dublin there's usually one in City West and RDS every now and again...why don't you give them a call and find out their schedule.

As you may have guessed from my previous posts :D I cannot recommend WOL highly enough. It's the first place I went and I got loads of leads and booked almost everything from info I got on WOL. I've recommended it to three other brides who are now using it.

I practically live on WOL. Sad I know.

Definately worth advertising on it. Yes the forums are the main attraction but I for one always check the suppliers on the site when looking for something in particular.

advertising is not allowed and will be bannable in future.
There is a sticky in this forum to discuss bands.

The thing is that if you're listed as a supplier you will get some initial business from a forum user out of it at some point, and - assuming your service is up to scratch - the WOLlies forum will take over. My Fiancé is goggle-eyed from reading that site while planning our wedding, and there's not one recommendation from another member that doesn't get at least a cursory investigation. It's well worth a punt and then review the forum periodically to see if your name is getting bandied about to see if it's worth continuing.

that said, the car is sort of the Guys thing to sort out, what with it having an engine and oil and wheels, and WOL is heavy on the oestrogen.

If you are going on WOL be sure to go clad in full body armour and leave your thin skin at home as it can get reeealllly PMStressful on there sometimes!! IT IS GREAT though for advertising and reaching a wide range of people all over the country as practically every bride in the country logs on there at some stage...best of luck to you anyway!:)

I would agree, I have got a number of weddings from the forum and I have never advertised there.

www.bandsforyou.ie is better value at €250 for the year and no commission, I have got 5 weddings booked from this in 4 weeks, more than pays for itself

The last one was in the Point I think - herself brought me along. Thankfully the only time I had to go to one of these events. I think that's where we sourced our DJ, invites and car.

We spent €1500 last year (every year) advertising on WOL. This year we will be putting the money to better use. We have benefited from it, don't get me wrong, but location and type of supplier dictates how beneficial it will be to you.

Just registered this week, will let you know how it goes. The thing about the advertising v forums is if you're online regularly enough, there's going to be a thread that applies to you, like you'll see someone saying "I got quoted X for cars/flowers/photographer, can anyone recommend a supplier who does this for [my budget]?", you can then comment on that thread and alllll the brides to be see your name then so after a couple of threads people see you're one of the big names.

Had previously spent money on wedding fairs which worked out not too badly but for my line of work it's just a bit easier to do it online instead of hauling gear from one showcase to another.

Also I personally think the banner and small ads are just too overwhelming on that site, there is just too much going on and I don't think it's worth hundreds of euro for an ad that will go unnoticed. I've just gone with the basic package (can forward you the rate card if you PM me your email address) because I just want to be able to chat on the forum and appear in the directory for a small few counties, and we don't make a living off weddings... if you have a bigger business with more capital and turnover it might be fine to go with a bigger investment.

    Sorry for the ramble!
