Tourney hand - ridiculous fold? Opinions please...

    Hi all

    Played a 25 +2.50 donkfest on Stars last night. I exited just outside the money but I'm beating myself up over the following hand. The more I think about it the more I'm sorry I didn't just ship it, maybe I gave my opponent too much credit. Would be interested in your opinions on the hand and what the correct play might have been:

    +++++++

    Blinds 200/400 with a 25 ante, I have a slightly above average stack of 11k, villain has 20k. I just arrived at this table and I have no read on the villain.

    UTG (villian) raises to 1k. UTG+1 (hero) calls with AcQc. Everyone else folds.

    Flop (~2600): 3h Ah Tc

    Villain checks. I bet 700, he re-raises me to 1400, I call.

    Turn: (~5400): As

    Villain bets 2k. At this point I'm getting worried about AK, or a f/h and go into my time bank. I call after some thought.

    River (~9400): 6s

    Villain now goes into his time bank and after some deliberation leads out for 3.5k.

    Value bet? I have 6.7k left. I go into my time bank again. I'm really worried I'm beat here. Surely he has to put me on an ace at this stage? I eventually fold.

    +++++++

    Was this a ridiculously bad fold? Unforgiveable given my stack depth? How often are we beating a weaker ace/bluff here?

    Grateful for all all opinions.

    I don't like how you played any street on this.

    I fold pf.
    If I am going to donk the flop, I make a bigger bet and when he min raises, I make it 4500 and call if he pushes.
    On turn, I shove.
    On river, the only decision I have is whether to shove or call, leaning towards a call as not sure he has Ace rag enough which is really the only hands that call you that you beat.

    He really should know you have an A in this spot and if he is any good he only check raises flop and leads 2 streets if he can beat your likely holding. However, this is giving a lot of credit to someone who probably doesn't deserve it. His bet sizing is awful in this hand, as is your flop bet. He should have you beaten here, but whether he does is another matter.

    I think he is a donk here more often than not and liable to be doing this with any Ax, or maybe even worse. When I get to the stage you are at in the hand above I would probably call at this point, but I would have played the hand differently. I check behind on the flop a lot in this spot for a few reasons, one of those being that it is too easy to go broke with AQ, but also to give him a chance to fire at it with a worse hand.

    There's some horrible bet sizing everywhere in this hand.

    His line (UTG raise, check minraise flop, lead, lead) is incredibly strong and I'd like to fold somewhere. I'd say he has TT, AT or AK a lot but there's such good odds to call on the turn and river that i probably do so. I don't think folding the river is bad at all

    Folding the river is awful, he could have any other ace and you are getting great odds. At this stakes you will often see QQ or KK here.

    Definitely would not fold the river. If you are going to fold anywhere in the hand it should have been preflop/on the flop.

    I think you should have bet like about 2/3 the pot on the flop as he could easily have JJ, QQ, KK and interpret you bet here as weakness, and then raise you. By betting more you make this 'bluff' harder to execute, and you'll have a better idea where you stand. By flat calling his raise he could easily put you on a non-set pocket pair. Should he have KK then the A on the turn is a safe card for him. This betting seems to me that thats the kind of hand he has.

    The betting in this hand is very strange. Any player worth his salt would set you in with AK/TT (or even AT) and hope you call with a weaker ace.

    Yeah, I think the small bet on the flop was a big mistake. I was trying to keep the pot small against an unknown but he could have taken it as an sign of weakness and could have set the stage for the rest of his play (assuming he's a donkey). The right line is probably to check behind.

    I figured having position on him and calling his bets would be enough to slow him down, that he'd give up on the river if he was drawing/bluffing. The river deliberation and call-me bet on the end didn't look good.
