    Its purely up to you.

However, it is suggested that women are more, eh, open when they have eaten and are satisfied.

Make two plans, just in case she changes her mind.
Have a few restaurants in mind and a couple of pubs.
Then start the date with checking what she wants to do.

If you go for dinner you will have a few more things to talk about....the menu, the restaurant, other restaurants,do you cook, what do you like cooking, your dream dinner party etc.If you go to a pub and all of a sudden its quiz night or student night then you can't hear yourself think unless you pre-plan a nice little pub with alcoves etc for privacy as you want them to be concentrated on you which as well is easier in the restaurant

Personally (assuming you are in Dublin), I'd go to the comedy in the International Bar. Good value, have a few drinks but outside of the normal pub environment. Plenty to keep you entertained and more importantly there will be plenty to talk about afterwards so there is no fear of those awkward silences.

Maybe head over to Dakota when it finishes for a quiet drink on their big comfy couches.

personally, i dont like going for meals on first dates, im usually nervous and end up letting food fall everywhere

Id go for drinks and chat that way if it is going badly ye can leg it and if it goes well ye can chat for hours.....win, win!!

Depends on the date and your own personality. I personally find dinners a little too formal. I've always been one for the auld game of pool in a quiet pub like the cornerstone on Wexford Street.

Personally i like an intimate quiet setting to talk to someone and get to know them, plus i like food (taurean :-))

So i would go to a restaurant and see how the evening went from there, whether it would be a dinner date or more intimate date after that.

Always go for a drink rather than a meal on the first date. If it turns out there not your cup of tea you can make an excuse to leave early. If you have dinner you'll be stuck there all night!:)

All my first dates (I only had 5) were going out for dinner, I think that it is nicer as the pub environment is too noisy. Good luck!

    First date nerves.

    You'll have them.

    She'll have them.

But remember, the hardest part is done. You asked her out, or the other way round, and she said yes. At least you know she likes you enough to accept an offer of a date.

Find a quiet pub. Chat away.

Failing that, I'd also recommend the International Comedy Night. It wasn't my first date with my gf, but it was certainly something we did in the first couple of weeks.

    DON'T GET DRUNK.

Afterwards, walk her to her taxi/bus/luas/DART, whatever. And give her a hug and a peck on the cheek. Then watch the eyes. You'll know immediately if she wants a bit more.

Don't go to dinner, it's harder to bail on her if she can see you the whole time.. go to the cinema so if you want to bail you can just go to the toilet and she won't now your running off to your car to get away from her! :D

Yeah I think as casual and comfortable as possible is the best. You're better off being relaxed enough to connect with each other, rather than trying to impress her I think.

The way i'ld see it is, whatever you guys do, it should be fun.

If you guys cant have fun together, then you guys cant probably get along that well together and if you guys cant get along that well in the beginning, its unlikely you guys will every get along so move on to the next chick! :)

ah first dates. how I love them! I wouldn't go for dinner, much too formal. Go to a cool pub that serves food (nice food) but still has the pubby atmosphere. Much less stressful than sitting across from each other being sophisticated!

....... After you have told her she looks great of course.
    Thats of critical importance.

    Good luck

Two great pieces of advice. Do not get drunk. The kiss on the cheek is a winner too, shows you're a gent. Will impress her and if the date went well will most probably leave her raging that she didn't get a proper smooch. Kiss on the cheek is such a winner.
