Well if you've not listened to his former band Whiskeytown then you should. Much better than his more recent stuff with the Cardinals.

I have to say, "Easy Tiger" (his upcoming album) is a return to form... I really really like it (and I haven't really liked anything of RA since Love Is Hell).

The jayhawks' first album is essential if you like ryan adams.

Wilco would be considered the cream of the crop when it comes to alt-country (at least by me)

yeah, definitely The Jayhawks, aslo try: Jesse Malin (him and ryan have a punk project together), Beth Orton (ryan sang on +produced her song Concrete Sky too), Lucinda Williams, Pete Yorn, Calexio, Lost Dakotas, Uncle Tupelo

Old wilco yes - AM, being there, summerteeth yes

I don't think yankee, a ghost is born or their new album, blue sky slue, are hardly alt country.

All great albums though... I'd reccommend being there out of the first three...

Just got an Andrew Bird album yesterday called Armchair Apocrypha, its pretty good so far. I think it could safely be added to this list.

alt country? While again it's a great album i'm not sure if it falls into this bracket.

Has the OP heard and of ryan adams new album. It's similar to his older albums but i loved cold roses and jaccksonville but i still can't wait to hear it all

Hmmm i don't know, i'd liken andrew bird to joanna newsom / smog / final fantasy. And they're quite different from RA. Anyways...

Just got Easy Tiger on vinyl, can't wait to get home and listen to it...

Keeping with Ryan Adams, if you haven't got "The Suicide Handbook" get it! It's amazing:)

I first got into Ryan Adams through the Counting Crows forum, it also got me listening to Dave Matthews Band. None of the 3 are really similar but all have excellent music and lyrics to go with it.

Just found out Bryan Adams and Ryan Adams have the exact same birthday. Nov 5 1955 and Nov 5 1974 respectively.

Just listening now, sounds good and got a nice surprise when I heard "Off broadway", this is on "The Suicide Handbook". Seriously folks, get The Suicide Handbook. CD 2 is just, just justice!

He is releasing an anthology of unreleased material (or material previously available on the net only) later this year - Suicide Handbook is part of it.
