i'm planning on building a single storey TF house and have attached a very basic plan and front elevation as i want to get an idea if my proportions so far look okay

for the narrower part of the house, i'm calculating that with a 30 degree roof pitch the height of the roof will rise to 2.6M (tan 30 X 4.5M), 4.5M being half of the span of the house..is this correct?

this would give the pitch of the roof over the kitchen/sitting room at about 45 degrees, based on the height of the roof remaining the same for the whole house

is a 30 degree pitch okay, what is average/normal

Windows- am i achieving an okay solid to void ratio?

For the bedrooms there will be 2 windows in each, each window being 0.9MX1.5M = 1.35 SQ M = 2.7 SQ M for 2, which is 2.7/16 = approx 17% of the floor area of the bedroom. 10% is given as a minimum for this calculation.

These windows will be facing south should I be trying for a higher figure than 17%

Any suggestions for what size windows I should put on the bedrooms on the other side, facing north, should I be keeping it to the minimum of 10% of floor area?

The sitting room and kitchen will have vaulted ceilings,

In the case of the sitting room should I be putting in some kind of a window at the front running right from the floor to the eaves? If i use the window as drawn now, I would also be putting in another window along the right hand side of the house to give light at the end of the sitting room away from the front. Do vaulted ceilings need glazing at levels above 'normal' window height?

I know i need to consider windows at the kitchen and rear of the house but I just want to see if i'm going in the right direction

sorry for all the questions and all comments greatly appreciated

Would you not want your kitchen on the south-facing side, perhaps across the hall from the sitting-room?

cut utility size and put bath next to it. that should free space for unsuite.
Stop re-inventing the wheel. get plans of a house thats already built and modify before going to an engineer for final drawing.
