Hey can anyone tell me why 21 Days later, which is on Channel four now, is not available in the Republic of Ireland? It says it on the info on sky digital that it is unavailable in the ROI...

Blame Channel 4, whilst they are happy selling Irish based advertising
on the Irish versions of their channel, both on NTL and SKy, they
will often not buy the movie rights for UK and Ireland. Crazy as the
movie is on NTL. Luckily I've both NTL and Sky otherwise I'd be
    rather peeved.

Discussed over in Satellite (link) It's to do with Channel 4 only having the rights to show some films and tv shows in the UK only... Hence they block it...

Not at all. Satellite and cable rights are completely different. Wityh time this wont be an issue as Channel 4 will purchase rights for both markets. They may have held the rights to that movie for a long time.

What did you all think of the alternate ending that they showed afterwards? I thought it was pretty lame myself, not worth showing.
Basically, Jim doesn't survive the combination of being shot and the taxi crashing into the gate, and despite their efforts to revive him in an abandonded hospital, he dies.

Yep, that'd be the first alternate ending. Not a big fan of it myself though, a wee bit too bleak. :o

I was watching it in a hotel in London and saw the alternative ending (I don't like it, it belongs as an extra on the DVD, where I first saw it), but my house mates insist analogue NTL showed the correct ending here in Ireland.
