Keep Sabbath Holy!!

The other day i was reading my 10 commandments just to brush up on them and then i was stunded to see "Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy".
My mouth dropped why dont us catholic's celebrate the sabbath? After some research i.e google. I found out that catholic use to celebrate the sabbath but because of the jewish-roman wars and the hatred for the jews back then it was changed to sunday. The jewish ppl also celebrate the sabbath. And because of this hatred the Council of Laodicea created a canon.

Canon 29 says "Christians must not judaize by resting on the Sabbath, but must work on that day, rather honoring the Lord's Day; and, if they can, resting then as Christians. But if any shall be found to be judaizers, let them be anathema (excommunicated) from Christ."
I dont know if this canon is abolished now.
So now they say we have sunday holy because it was the day jesus was ressurcted. But this too me seems like an excuse for changing from the sabbath to sunday.
In the Bible there is lots of references to where god says keep the sabbath holy. If ppl wish i will tell them where they are said, but i wont quote them now. God created the earth on the seventh day and said keep that day holy, which is the sabbath.

So we are breaking a commandment every week by not celebrating the sabbath. There is no justification or excuse for changing to sunday, in the bible i think its revelation 22 it says that no one can change the words of god and the bible. It says if u do u shall experience plague like that in the bible. But we have changed the bible and most important broken a commandment!! We are all Sinners...!
Why isnt it changed back to celebrating on the sabbath, is it not a good enough reason to... the fact is we are breaking a commandment every week.
I hope to hear ppl's thoughts on this.

    Philip.

This is why the 7th day adventists changed it back to Saturday.

7th day adventists are tottally different!! They dont believe in hell or purtory, they believe when u die you if u dont accept salvation your soul is destroyed it doesnt go to hell for ethernity. They believe god is the only person to judge you. And that jesus will return on the 2nd advent. They also believe in the book of life which has everyones names this is where u are decided to accept salvation and be accept into heaven or be destroyed.

So while adventist do celebrate the sabbath they got a number of other differences too.

I got a friends who is a 7th day adventist!!

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. (Colossians 2:13-17)

The Sabbath? I don't worry about it any more than I would worry about getting circumcised or eating bacon sandwiches.

Well just like its a good idea to limit the bacon sandwich intake cos the sodium won't do you any good, I think Sabbath is a very helpful way of life. Taking a day out every week that isn't about producing or consuming and is just about being would probably be positive for our over-stressed society.

But Jesus explicitly reshapes the idea of Sabbath and it is no longer needed as a religious command.

But keeping the sabbath holy is a commandment... its not like he just randomly said it in the bible, which he said lots of time to keep it holy, and in revelation 18-19 he says that no one can change his words!! so how can u say its no longer a religious command!! you cannot change our lords words.
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.(Revelation 22:18-19)

So, Phil, do you keep all the commandands in Leviticus?

Of course Colossians 2:17 is also a command. So if I allow anyone to judge me for not keeping the sabbath then I'm breaking that commandment, aren't I?

(Hint: Many of the Old Testament commands were fulfilled in Jesus Christ, so no longer apply to us today)

I'm not a very religious person so excuse me if i dont always get it right. But it is written Exodus, Leviticus and Number to keep the sabbath holy, not just Leviticus.
I'm coming from the point of view that as a catholic and when in school the 10 commandments were very important, and as catholics we follow the commandments. Maybe some arent very revelant today but never the less does that mean we should not follow whats written and just excuse the 10 commandments. The very foundation of the catholism is based on the commandments.
The main reason for celebrating the sabbath was that god created the earth on the seventh day and then he rested and made it holy.
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.Colossians 2:16

Its says do not let anyone judge you with regards to a sabbath day, but this does not say it is ok to change the word of god or forget about the sabbath.
The point that today nobody in the catholic tradition celebrates the Sabbath!! but we did in the old days before the catholics though we were judizers by celebrating the sabbath.. This is not right you have to respect all religions.
