My buddy got suspended yesterday from work until tuesday when he knows he will get fired. Question is, can he walk in tomorrow and resign and then walk away never to return i.e. jump before he is pushed?

Obviously he won't be getting a reference & is not interested in unfair dismissal tribunals. He just wants out as he is sick of the place. (I was urging him to talk to a solicitor as I felt if he was fired then it was severe for what he did).....

    Cheers...

If he's not that bothered with a reference then he should just never return on tuesday.

Cheers for the reply, he more is concerned by the dismissal factor & wanted to avoid that by resigning.

Has he got a written contract??

1..if so, he should go through it and see what he can do from there, if he is bothered.

2..he could bang off a letter of resig and get it into them today.

He's not barred from the premises, so I presume he can just go into his manager's office and say

"Hello! Here is my letter of resignation. I shall be clearing my desk now. Ciao!"

Does it really matter whether he's fired/resigns anyway? Is he just trying to prove to the manager that he doesn't care about being fired?

I doubt it, considering I'm self employed........ :D
    what did he do?

Didn't turn up for work for four days & couldn't be contacted. Shoddy performance I agree...... Think he went for the resign now method.

    Cheers...
