    Hi All,

Just to give a little short background... I'm a Software Developer with 4 years experiance using Sybase PowerBuilder and T-SQL. building standard 2-tier apps mostly in Banking / Financial industry.

now I'm starting to re-think my career...

I would like to work with Mac OSX programming (XCode, Cocoa,..) but I'm not sure. I like to be motivated by new technologies and now a days Apple are being a step (or even 10 steps !) over Microsoft.

But I'm not sure if there's any jobs for Mac developers, also what jobs would they be if there are jobs !??

Can anyone give me some advice please?

most of the mac programming jobs are C/C++ stuff, so youll need decent knowlege there. Im a hobbyist developer, I used to be a visual basic developper. I moved to the mac as my main platform 4 years ago and never moved back. I now develop in RealBASIC, it has cross platform exporting (windows, mac and linux) and ive never been happier.

If your looking for a devellopment career then I suggest joining apple developer connection (ADC) theres forums there that can help you better than boards.ie can

I'm a Mac developer - I'm currently working on a Cocoa app using Objective C and C++, CoreAudio and a few other such technologies. Its a pretty nice environment to program in, Xcode is an excellent IDE, but I couldn't tell you what the jobs market would be like :) I'm a bit curious myself actually, in case I'm looking for work again anytime soon!

Thank you both for the reply... :)

I did study C/ C++ in college when I was doing my Masters in Computing but didnt get to use it in the real world so to speak. I do remember the basics of it.

One question for developing in MAC,...will it restrict me to multimedia apps only? could you use Database (Sybase, Oracle) with Xcode ?

I did register online and will start going though the material soon, thanks :)
I also checked Amazon for few books that I would need for my platform move.

I'm interested in developing apps for MACs for that I believe that in the next 5 years most Mobile OS systems either will be based on CoCoa, for the release of the Iphone would change the entire mobile OS development industry and mobiles are becoming our new laptops.
and (hate to mention this) I've been unemployed for 2 years now! :S and thinking to change my career.

There's a huge shortage of good Mac developers right now from what I have heard.

yeah but to become good it takes time and no one would employe you unless you have experience!
I was researching and most of the development seem to be around web based apps, you can use Oracle and Sybase with Xcode but then you wouldl have to think which is better: an app written in Sybase PowerScript or Xcode for a database app?
