sky digibox question

I have an old grundig gds310/2 digibox that I am going to use in the kitchen
I have it connected up to the dish. I will not have a sub card in this box. My question is when I turned it on I got the Irish epg eg:101=RTE 1. (no signal)
On my main box with sub if I take the card out I get 101=BBC 1
why is this?

When you put on 101, and get RTE One, does it really say "No satellite signal is being received"? If so, nothing is gonna work right until you've signal

If you have signal, try going to Sky News, press Red to go into Active, then press Sky to exit again. See if BBC1 comes up on 101 now. Alternatively, do as above again, but this time have your viewing card in before going into Sky News Active.

The tuner may be faulty on the Grundig box which is quite common, can you receive any of the other free to view channels such as sky news ch 501?? or have you no signal on every channel??

Some boxes have by default RTE EPG and not BBC 101 EPG.

Byte actually suggests this, if you have a signal. Here is Step by step version
How to solve this:
1) Put card in.
2) Go Sky News
3) press red
4) Wait for interactive to fully load
5) remove card
6) Press Backup

There will be a delay as UK EPG loads
7) Ignore error messages about card. Do NOT insert even an upside down card. Press backup if any error message.

You should have UK EPG.

Sorry just to be clear. I have a signal and I get all availlable channels without a viewing card. I want the UK epg eg:101 = BBC1
I have tried this:
1) Put card in.
2) Go Sky News
3) press red

6) Press Backup
but it does not work for me I still have 101 = RTE one (encrypted)

Well watty is spot on with what he has suggested to do, I personally never knew it could be done until I followed his steps and since then have done it a number of times and it worked perfectly each time....so cheers once again Watty

Unplug box from mains. Ensure no card is in the box.

Press and hold BackUp button on front of digibox, while putting power back into box again. KEEP the button pressed, until all the LED's on the front of box light up. You can let go then.

If your Skybox is connected to TV via Scart, you'll get a black screen with Software Download information.

Download can take around 10-15 mins, after which the box powers down again, and will take a further 30secs or so, before it'll boot again.
