A few shots from the Ireland Vs India One Day International Cricket match at Belfast. All shot with a 300/2.8 with 1.4 TC on a tiny 400D by someone who have never done anything like this before! 54 so-so "keepers" shots from 600+ shots! :D

Apart from the rain and delay, it was a fun day and plenty of good cricket. Irish fielding was commendable, and Indian bowling was just so-so! Sachin Tendulkar looks like he is still in his World Cup ""form"", out for a massive 4 runs!

A lot of cropping in these shots. 300mm + 1.4x TC on a 400D is something like 672mm (?) and that was just not long enough to isolate a player in the middle. Thanks to Covey for giving me his 400/5.6 for the weekend, 400 + TC would have been ideal reach, but it was way too dark for that lens.

    C&C Welcome!

Great stuff, would punch up the light levels on the third one a little though.

Thanks a million Darren, RuggieBear & Roen.

Roen, you are right about that one, didn't notice it until you pointed it though. Thanks!

Covey, 300/2.8? No way! The next level up from your 400/5.6 has to the mighty 400/2.8! Logical next step up from 400/5.6. :D

Had a look through your flickr ... some great shots there ... obviously the one with the bails in mid air is a perfect shot ... beautifully sharp ... nice contrast ...

one thing that is a bit of a distraction is the white blur near the batsmans head ... I'd take that out if I were you ...

but really good work ... you have me interested in getting out with the camera at the cricket in the Phoenix park now ...

    Thanks guys!

Glowing, thats the first time Trent Johnston had actually managed to the connect the bat to the ball in a good way, and the ball probably was close to the boundary line at that stage! :D

    leakd, thank you!

leinsterman, thanks! I agree, would have been better if I had cloned that white object out - thats the inner circle markers - I have them in a few shots. The sharpness is all because of the mighty 300/2.8 IS, with TC! And yeah, good idea, I will see what my Sigma 70-300 can do with the Phoenix park ground.

    Thanks Rymus! :D
