Hi all, you m ight remember I was on here late last year or earlier this year asking about changing from Chorus to Sky, I got lots of advice here and went to sign up for it. Anyway amid all the confusion Sky could find no record of my applications (online and phone) and told me that I wasn't eligible for the free Sky+ box and installation, so I politely told them where they could stick their metaphorical satellite dish:eek: After that I used to phone them from time to time offering to become a Sky customer but that I wouldn't be prepared to pay for a box or installation, some rather bored sounding Scottish people told me politely where to stick it....
Anyway to make a short story long;) I saw their latest ads about introducing a friend and getting €75 for your trouble, so I thought I'd ring up for a quick argument, imagine my surprise when I was greeted by a friendly and enthusiastic assistant with a lilting Cork accent who was only too pleased to advise me on the products and offers available. He told me that as I wanted Sky+ with multiroom the current offer meant that I could get, aSky+ box half price (€70), standard box free, installation free, first two months half price subscription and my brother (existing Sky customer recommending me) would get €75:) . I said I'd phone back later with my brothers details.
I phoned back later to subscribe and spoke to yet another friendly and enthusiastic assistant again with a beautiful lilting Cork accent and when I told her I wanted to get Sky+ so that I could rewind and watch every score Cork get in their All Ireland victory she gave me an even better offer:)
Now I'm getting Sky+ box free (but my brother doesn't get the €75:( ), standard box free, no installation charge whatsoever, 2 months subscription for half price:) :):)
Apart from the bargain I feel I've got, the whole experience was far mor pleasant than any of the dealings I had with Sky when their call centre was in Scotland, I really got the impression that most of the people ther hated their jobs and went out of their way to be unhelpful.....

You certainly did well all rite regarding your installation, I didn't know the cork call center was up and running yet...I myself find the Scottish call centers fine apart from a few problems understanding some of them and obviously some find it difficult to understand my accent.

bet your brother was annoyed he didnt get the €75 refer a friend offer though lol..

Billy, what number did you ring for the Sky+ with multiroom section? I always seem to get put on hold for ages... I fancy upgrading myself.

I ordered sky hd online a few weeks ago and it was to be installed last Saturday. I had no contact from them so I rang them and they have no record of my order. Absolute muppets.

thought all Online orders were for UK customers only ?

I ordered Sky online a couple of times, and the order was "lost" each time when I called up to check the installers were coming.. :(

Anyway, turns out that because I live in an apartment block, Sky's engineers wouldn't install for me anyway. Cheers.

So, I decided to pay a local installer to supply and fit a dish for me (inc. quad LNB and two coax runs). Cost me €245 in all, which I wasn't best pleased about, but at least it's mine and it's done. And it's a pretty neat job, too.

I bought a brand new Sky+ PVR3 from an eBay seller in the UK, which cost me £80 inc shipping.

Now here's the Sky trick: The Freesat department of Sky (08702405651) have better offers than the regular sales department. I know this because I called them looking for a Freesat card for £20 (pretending I'm calling from the UK). The sales guy suggested, rather than paying £20 for a card, why not let him send me a card for free, on subscription, but whatever package I wanted it would be half price for six months. Clever. Still, six months half price sky is much better than the regular 2 months half price that is currently on offer to both UK and Irish customers.

Problem was, I didn't really want a British subscription. Fair enough, I'd get ITV, BBC Three, CH5 etc etc, all in the EPG. But I'd have no Irish channels and frankly I didn't want to have a contract based in the UK, at a friends house, billed in Sterling to my Irish credit card. Just too much hassle.

So, I called Freesat again. This time I got a woman, very friendly. I was really friendly back, but also acted really stupid. I told her my relative in the UK had just called this number, and been given 6 months half price etc etc, and could I please have the same. I know I'm in Ireland but please please please. She told me she'd never done an Irish subscription before and didn't really know how to, but she'd do her best and have a look at what's on offer.. "I'm just having a look down the offers now, sir. Let's find the best one for you shall we." Yes please, let's. She told me she couldn't give me 6 months half price in ROI, but she could give me even better - 12 months at 33% off. Nice one! That works out even better.

So, I'm now enjoying a full Sky+ subscription, all channels, for only €44 a month, every month, for the whole year. :)

PS: I'm using VoIP rather than Eircom - and the digibox not only activated fine, but I've been using interactive features and the box has made numerous callbacks successfully, first time. I thank Blueface for that, and my WRTP54G.

You'd get that ringing the Irish number.

You need a UK postcode address for the UK offer or FTV card. An N.I. UK sub is good (N.I. Postcode address needed) as you get all the UK stuff (C4 & Five etc) AND RTE, RTE2, TG4, but no TV3 (ITV much the same though).

Yes, an NI sub is indeed good ;)

Are you using any particular settings on the router/ATA to achieve this ?

G711 is the only setting that will work for SkyDigibox.

What, 33% off for 12 months? I beg to differ. I called the Irish number and they offered only the standard 2 months half price and wouldn't budge!
