    paxo,

We've recently had a thread about improving the quality of recommendations for clubs on this board. Don't just point to links.

    johnnymc,

What are you looking for in a martial art/combat sport? Are you looking for a recreational activity, something to get fit, an opportunity to compete?

How intense/relaxed would you like the classes to be? Are you more interested in sparring or forms? Would you prefer a grappling based style or striking style?

These questions will help us better help you.

    Colm

In Prosperous there is Combat Kickboxing on the the GAA Monday, Wednesday at 8 and Friday at 7. Fridays class is for fighters only. Monday and Tuesdays all levels attend.

If you need any more details PM me.

    Thanks lads for the help.

Yeah sorry Colm my post was pretty vague. Im looking to start up either Taekwondo or Kickboxing. Im looking for a combination of combat technique, self-defense, sport, exercise, entertainment, and philosophy :)

Paddy Clint runs a Muay Thai gym not too far from you (about 15 minutes on the N7). www.chupasart.com

Not sure about the philosophy bit, but you'll get the rest with Muay Thai.

No need to apologise Johnny, it's our job here as more experienced posters to help you find the best suit to your needs, not just pimp our own clubs.

Above is link to a TKD club in Naas. On tuesdays and thursdays. It should fit in with the aspects you're looking for above. Check the full list of clubs - there may be other clubs that are handy for you too.

Best bet is to try out few MA's that suit you location wise and take it from there. One might just click with you over another, but you'll never know unless you try as many as you can! Worth putting in a bit of effort before you decide on one...
