So far I have put CV'S. in shops around my area and in Dublin City centre. I mus have put about 20 CV'S. into Spar shops alone, but still no reply.

How long is the norm for replys?

Oh by the way, when I hand my CV'S. in, I just hand them to people at the till, is that what I should do?

Terrible time to be looking for a job tbh. Everywhere will be full of students. I'm looking for stuff atm too and Dunnes Cornelscourt stopped taking in applications weeks ago. The Ballyogan branch is looking for staff though if you're able to get to there.

    Hi there

probably not a good idea to give it to the person at the till, dress smartly and ask them to get the manager and hand it to the manager

    this could be one scenario
you hand your cv to the person at the counter
they wonder if they are going to be let go or why someone is looking for a job
    they bin the cv

so hand to the manager best bet

I have the same problem as you, I desperatly need part time work that I can keep on all through the summer, and when I go back to college too. I started half looking in late April but I had the leaving so that kinda took precedent.

What I've been doing is calling a few places and asking to speak to whoever deals with recruitment, I ask them are they looking for anybody, sometimes it's a no, but on most occasions they just tell me to drop a CV into the store, especially if it's the head office of some place. I also posted a few out just for the hell and I've been keeping an eye on a couple of online jobsites. Best way by far is to try and speak to the manager either on the phone or in person.

Best of luck, to the both of us I guess.

Centra Fairview are looking for staff.
They have a sign in Polish and in English so maybe they are finding it hard to get staff.

Not far from the city centre

Have you phoned the shops after dropping the CV in?

You should always follow up with a phone call a couple of days later if you haven't heard anything. Shows interest.

I know from my own experience of working in shops, it can get so busy that CVs are often shoved somewhere and forgotten about. Even if the sales assistant genuinely intends to give it to a manager.

Yep, definitely ask to speak to a manager. Be persistent if you're being fobbed off. When you do speak to a manager, give them a quick run-down of any relevant experience. This works kinda like a cover letter. Remember, places like that will be swamped with CVs - especially this time of year.
And make sure your CV is of a good standard. Read the stickies here on CV layout.
