Run Ronny Run!

Anyone remember this show? First off I don't even know if it was called "Run Ronny Run" but that was the catchphrase and one sure thing I remember.

The premise was that a viewer would call the show and request the show host to a play a pop video on air. Thing is, view requests weren't as straight forward as back in the 80's as they are today. I guess video cataloguing wasn't as organised as it is today because once the viewer request had been heard then this mute sidekick of the main presenter would be charged with running out of the main house and into a toolshed down the back of the garden to fetch the video casette that held the video that the viewer wish to watch. This runner"Ronny" was up against the clock and if he couldn't locate the tape in time then the viewer was left empty-hearted and tuneless. :(

All I remember It was on during the early days of Sky Channel and I could have sworn it featured Pat Sharpe (as the main presenter) and Bob Mortimer (of Vic Reeves fame) playing Ronny? Tho that information I'll admit is unreliable.

I'd love to be able to find out what it was called or track down a clip of it. Any info gratefully recieved.

Yep... I remember this... I used to have to sit through it while I was waiting for Transformers to start.

Pat Sharpe was the presenter... but I don't think it was Bob Mortimer in it.

The caller would have scream "Run, Ronny Run" over and over again down the phone.

Jesus, that made me laugh!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Something to do with getting a video from the video library and Ronny had like a minute to find it and bring it back to Pat

    That brought me back ;)

Hmm, I get the feeling there won't be too much video footage of this show knocking around the net.

Anyway I worked out the name of the show. It was called "The Great Video Race"

    If you watch this file

there's a second or two of it featured in a promo video for Skys various music shows of the time. Defo Pat Sharpe but I've no idea who the ronnie fella was.

Wow tv was such rubbish back then!

It was called "The Smash Great Video Race", Smash being a knock-off of Swatch (aaah the eighties, the memories...)
Callers had to boredly shout "Run Ronny" repeatedly, while Ronny, well, ran and got a watch for their trouble.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't Bob Mortimer, though.
