I'm thinking buying a new set of irons in the next couple of weeks.

I was going to set a budget of €400. I was just wondering maybe if anyone had bought a new set. I was thinking of changing from Irons to Graphite shafts, not to sure if its a good idea.

Try the Ryder Z40. 72euro from Argos for 3-SW. Best value around.

Not a good idea to buy irons from argos unless you are a complete beginner and only intend to use them for your first few months to a year. These cheap irons will not help your game, there won't be a consistent strike from them and they will age very badly. There is good value on ebay in all sorts of irons but I would particularly recommend Titleist 775cb, I have these myself and you can get a set on ebay for around the €400 mark or a bit higher, excellent value and I can guarantee you will have them for years. As regards graphite shafts I had a (cheap) set with graphite shafts and I just found them to be inconsistent distance wise, but with better quality clubs you will probably get better quality shafts.Anyhow it's just an opinion, hope I was of some help....

graphite shafts will probably help you hit the ball a few yards further.

My last commenet was sarcastic, i wouldnt use buy anything in Argos especially Golf clubs. I was just wanted to know if anyone really bought a set of new clubs that they would recommend. I had a set of graphite before and sold them so probably wont get another set.

Anyone reommend someone for a couple of golf lessons around the Northside?

Best advice is to go along to a shop where you can try out a few sets. Tell them how much you want to spend and what you are looking for and they will give you a selction to try.

After that, just go for the set that you like best.

Don't be swayed by a certain brand. Golf clubs are totally individual. What's good for one person isn't necessarily best for another.

Re: Good pro in North Dublin.

I'd recommend Anto in Tony Judd's shop in Forrest Little near Swords, he's young but very very good and good value.
(Make sure you don't get Tony now, Anto works Thurs-Sat)

You should go to a few shops as suggested and try out different sets on the shops launch monitor. Then buy on ebay or check the buy and sell as either sites are a great source. If you are goining to buy from ebay do so only from the USA site and from a shop as then you are almost guaranteed not to get stung with counterfits

demo demo demo.....find somewhere you can hit as many sets as possible...then after you find something you really like I'd buy a second hand set on ebay...in great condition...there are some serious bargains to be had if you know what you're looking for...

Having gone through Wilson, Taylor Made and Mizuno irons (my current set), I cannot recommend Mizuno highly enough.
