For those of ye who have yet to hear the lineup, it is available here

    It's on from Oct 26th - 29th.

Bit disappointed Bobby Hutcherson cancelled, but The Leaders sound well worth seeing. Anyone know why Hutcherson cancelled?

    Any thoughts/opinions on the lineup?

It looks like a decent enough lineup. Shame about Bobby Hutcherson, indeed. I think I'll be avoiding the Geoff Gascoyne Project if I do make it to Cork.

The line up seems just ok IMO. I've been writing to the organisers since the mid 80's to try and get other branches of the jazz genre included. In fairness they have improved, but in all the time it's going there has never been a free/improvised band or artist there ( e.g. Charles Gayle, Evan Parker, Peter Brotzmann, Paul Dunmall, William Parker ect ). While I admit these have a minority listenership, to even feature one per festival would be great. They would fill a smaller venue.
Ah well ! maybe some day

Whilst i don't think he's playing in the festival Brad Mehldau is also playing Cork (and Dublin) in October so that kinda compensates for Hutcherson's loss, though if this happens every year with the biggest name dropping out (like Hubbard last year) i'll be well miffed.

No one on the lineup really grabs me (largely as i haven't heard of all of them) but i'll still definately go and i'm looking forward to it.

    Here's what bothers me:

    Guinness_Jazz01.jpg

Ireland's Jazz capital my arse. Save for a few days at the end of October there is sh!t all jazz here

I'd be interested in going to see Gary Burton but.. meh.. I'm too lazy. There's plenty going on in Dublin anyway - there's David Liebman doing some Coltrane stuff this month and Brad Mehldau, Jan Garbarek and that Thimar group (John Surman, Dave Holland, Anouar Brahem) on the way.

Yeah, that usually brings a wry smile to my face. I've even seen it advertised as EUROPES  jazz capital.
Maybe there is no demand for it among the locals during the rest of the year. :D

He isn't playing. He's only featured with Geoff Gascoygne. And it's CULLUM - get it right, then at least you'll sound like you know what you're actually dissing.

E.S.T are playing the Everyman on the friday. Superb trio. Seen them twice and already have front row seats for this one.....
